Should I buy a Ranger ?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering whether there are any alternative pick-ups that tradespeople will chose over Rangers.  A quick Autotrader check suggests the Isuzu DMax should be around a grand cheaper on first year.  Possibly lower spec Hilux and Amarok as well.  They're all over £40k book price though so that adds an additional £410 for the first 5 years on top.

I reckon they'll end up buying small vans or large hatchbacks/estates instead in many cases.

.. A 50k Ranger would fall into a 37% BIK rate meaning tax of £3550 yearly for 20% taxpayers or £7100 for 40% tax payers !

It would be more palatable if it was ring fenced for investment in roads, but sadly, it just goes into a big pot to be squandered on all sorts of cr*p.  So any time you see the suggestion of extra tax specifically for NHS, or 'defense' you should always object. It will end up like road tax, and be spent on anything the government of the day wants...

Well I've finally taken the plunge and bought a Ranger Stormtrak in Lucid Red, it's very nearly 3 years of age but as you might expect looks new.

I'll get a couple of photos of it tomorrow when the rain stops 🤣

The hunt is on ......

Can anyone find me a link to a March 2022 Wildtrak/Stormtrak PAPER Ford owners handbook please?

As far as I know the genuine original owners book is over 500 pages

Proper owners manual haven't come with rangers for a long long time. Good luck finding one.

This is the latest ranger variant.

2.3 ecoboost phev. I didn't realise what was under the bonnet until I put my foot down expecting diesel lag from the auto box. 700nm torque. The rear  tyres have slightly less tread now!!! 😂😂

I wonder what the mpg is on that ? 🤔

My 2.0 Ecoblue Ranger gets between 30 and 35 mpg, but mostly around 31.

I'd expect a 2.3 Ecoboost to drink petrol like there's no tomorrow, but I suppose the phev side of things will help especially when accelerating.

If the chassis still rusts, that'll soon be making a bid for freedom.😀
