No Engine Start in 500 Miles

Featured Replies

Hi,

So I had this message on my way back from Scotland and annoyingly now it's reached 0 and wont start..

I had been getting a couple of Adblue warnings but the garage couldnt find an issue..
Wireing looks ok, adblue level is 88% etc etc
It's a 71 plate wildtrack so I watched a couple of youtube videos on how to get it started...

Bridging the relay (no 2) in the fuse box, this works for ignitions with keys but not for the push start like mine 😞

Any ideas on how to get it started and clear or reset the code
I have downloaded forscan and have the adaptop but its just says cant find vehicle info when I connect to it 😞

Have you got the ignition on when trying to connect to Forscan?

Press the start button without pressing the clutch/brake.

I've noticed that Ranger's seem to very often have issues with the AdBlue system. It doesn't matter which engine the car has (2.0 2.2 3.0 3.2) they all have problems. Oddly the same engine used in a different vehicle doesn't have problems 🤔

Could be a multitude of dpf/ adblue issues that trigger the non starting. You need to get a decent garage to have a look/ diagnose. Getting it started will only give you a few hundred miles at most. Proper diagnostics can reset the counter so being able to diagnose/ dpf regen etc to be done. There's some connectors that can cause problems that's buried under the body that's not easy to access.

I have 2019 Ranger Raptor what had same issue around 100 000km. Went to dealer and they replaced Adblue tank under warranty. If I remember correctly they told that Adblue temperature sensor was faulty but it is built in to tank so they had to change tank to get new sensor. Glad that I had warranty. No problems with Adblue after that.

So I have fixed the forscan issue, the software was an old version and didnt like my ranger... Newest version installed and it connects just fine..

Still no further forward on the adblue isse though.. but forscan does let you reset the engine forced no start... you can run "reset SCR inducement fault" and this will give you 31 miles again before it wont start...
So I guess enough to get to a garage..

It also picked up a bunch of adblue codes but nothing pointing directly to the issue.  😞

Forgot to mention, I had seen that youtube video as well and asked the garage to check there for any issues but they didnt find any rubbing damage in that area..
They are going to take another look on next week and take the injector out and clean it, but if that dosent work its 4th of april before i can get it to an auto electronics specialist 😞
Still I know the forscan option will keep letting me start it via my laptop so at least I can drive it, just have to run that tool after any decent lenght trip..

I never replied to how this was fixed in the end..

After going to the auto electrician he got some better codes than I did and knew a mechanic at my local ford dealer so he got me in touch with him direct and I took it to ford he drained a sample of Ad-blue after looking at all the codes I had gathered.

When he showed me the sample it was a milky hazey liquid, he said it was contaminated somehow and that was ***** with the sensors..

Anyway they drained the tank and chemically cleaned it and re-filled it and it's been fine ever since..

Cost was £250
Several other garages wanted to replce the ad-blue tank / system / injectors etc etc but they were all crazy prices.

  • 2 months later...

There is a way if the tank level reads empty by bridging pin 1 and 4 with a 10k ohm resistor its act like its got a full tank, but can be heater or dpf open circuit triggering no start, all this emissions stuff is a nightmare
