Rear Wiring Harness - Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Been having some issues around the rear axel wiring harness in my 67 plate 3.2 Wildtrak.
For the most part, I’ve been able to patch repair this as needed, but looking at the state of the wiring/connectors, it might be time to replace the entire rear loom.

Ford have quoted around £1200 for this, and I’m sure I could reduce the cost a bit with a local indy.  However, the combination of buying a new house and an upcoming wedding have really done a number on our savings, so I could really do without the additional cost. (I also quite enjoy doing my own repairs where I can)

As best as I can tell, the loom starts where the bed meets the body, under the passenger rear wheel arch. There are quite a few things run off this (wheel sensors, AdBlue, lights, camera, fuel tank to name a few), so there are plenty of wires - I think the part itself is just under £600.

Am I correct in thinking I can just disconnect the existing loom and switch it out for the correct part? Or have I oversimplified this?
I believe there are only 6 bolts holding the rear bed on, so removing this would make access far easier and allow me to clean up the area too.

Has anyone done this before? I’ve seen some good videos of electrical repairs, and bed removal during restoration of an older Ranger.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - happy to post some pics of the connectors / damaged wires too if that helps.

Cheers
