Ford Ranger Caught Fire

Featured Replies

Hello,

In need of some urgent help. The picture says it all really, I was the owner of this ford ranger which caught fire whilst driving at 70mph which no warning light or any indication that there was a fault

There were 3 people in this vehicle as it went up in flames and were genuinely lucky to get out before it physically blew up.

The vehicle itself was 4 years and 8 months old which is still under the powertrain/transmission warranty. Had only done 46k miles and was serviced at 35k miles using ford parts. Ford are not willing to help me what so ever to investigate the cause of the problem and have said I need to provide an independent investigator to go with ford to investigate it. They're aren't willing to have a look at it out of courtesy.

Absolutely disgusting from Ford's part

If anyone had any ideas of what could have caused this. Im would be extremely grateful IMG_1359.thumb.jpeg.73409ce0ae5d6d7cee44b8ba8575e192.jpeg

We have seen a few Rangers catch fire lately.  Haven't seen anyone post an exact cause yet.

Ford are right not to look without an independent investigator.  That will be needed for the insurance anyway.  And legally you're both better off with an independent person rather than it being their word against yours.

I've tried to check for any recalls but it's not working with the private reg.  If you can post the VIN I can check it that way.

There is 2 pending CSP against the vehicle which i later found out by the ford dealership. One of them was a dpf update?

You should declare the vehicle SORN and at least get 11 months Road Tax refunded.

Yes, two FSA's for that VIN.  Both exhaust related.

Don't be silly.  Unofix only buys cars with wetbelts! 🤭

Nothing that would cause a fire.  Old recalls too, so ranger not been to a ford dealer for servicing. Letters also would have gone to the registered keeper. Maybe no the new keeper.

Car fires are commonly due to wiring chaffing / accessories and associated  wiring poorly fitted.

I've seen some right bodge jobs on rangers. They commonly have extras fitted by poorly trained fitters.

Came across this post today, so sorry you had this experience - my Ford Ranger blew up in flames today on the motorway in NW England (hence my search).

I have now read a few horror stories and will be taking this further privately too as we’re lucky to be out - so scary.

2021 Ford Ranger only purchased 3 months ago from a dealership and low mileage. Can’t be right. Photo taken by passer by on the other side of the motorway.
