Brake Failure 2021 Ranger vacuum pump?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Ranger and brakes only work 50%, the peddle goes solid during braking. I suspect it vacuum pump failure probably caused by wet belt disintegration.

its 2021 with only 34500 miles on the clock. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Please help

If the Servo didn't have enough vacuum I would expect a Fault Code.

the servo does work at if ignition off and pump brake pedal the pedal goes hard. if foot kept on pedal once engine started the pedal drops back down as expected. my fear is that it is the wel belt?

Vacuum Pumps do fail, but personally I think that they do because of bits of Wet Belt is an urban myth, I've had Rubber Diaphragms perishing long before Wet Belts were invented.  I may be wrong about that though.

If your Servo has a Pressure Sensor bolted to the outside of it then I would expect a Fault Code to be logged if the pressure was too low in normal running.

If you are set up with FORScan or something else that allows you to read Live Data you may be able to monitor this.

Check the vacuum in the overall system,  then seal off components if the pump is good but the system is low?
