Front Wheel Bearing Ranger XL Ecoblue 4 x 4

Featured Replies

Hi

Please can anyone tell me if your able to replace the front bearing, or do you have to replace the whole front hub assembly in a Ford Ranger Pickup 2022 ECO BLUE XL 4 x 4  Variant BC2X4N Type 2AB.

If have to replace the whole assembly does this come with the abs sensor.

Thank you.

Paul

You are lucky bugger l wish all front bearing was so easy as these to replace, I'd go with replacing the hub and bearing as 1 it'll be an easier job and probably cheaper in the long run if yo don't have the means to separate the bearing and then press the new 1 back on. This video shows how easy yours is to do 👍

That Youtube content shows the old Ranger which is completely different from a 2022 Ranger.

The 2022 Ranger has a replaceable wheel bearing that is pressed onto the wheel hub and into the wheel knuckle. Apart from the bearing being replaceable, the design is quite similar to the GEN2 wheel hubs that are used on other Ford models

Special tools are required to remove and to install the bearing.

AFAIK, the Gen 2 (as on 2011 S-Max) do indeed require a special toolkit as the flange is integral with the bearing making it impossible to apply the removal and fitting forces to the correct races without it.
The 2022 Ranger diagram above shows a separate bearing and flange which, I think, can be removed and fitted with a standard set of bearing pullers, usually found in a kit covering multiple vehicles (The Gen 2 is specific to individual sizes of bearing as it requires clam shell adapters)

Edit: And it can become a nightmare as some of the special kits are not correctly designed meaning you can't get the clam shells out after fitting the new bearing, leading to a nightmare of having to grind the hub  (don't ask how I know!)

This was very helpful, but how do I identify the special tools required - I do have a simple bearing press.

It would also be really helpful to identify the source of the diagram?

I purchased what I thought was an online workshop manual but nowhere can I find that diagram the only diagram I can find is below:

I learnt from JW1982's comment that it was diffrent and that yours are pressed in along with the hub after. The diagram that yours shows you is exactly what l found 1st off the old version where the bearing is held in by the wheel hub, your new version should be held in with a circlip as shown in JW's diagram.

so you have 2 choices

1) a puller that will sit over the hub and also rest on the hub knuckle So it can pull while pushing basically 2 U shape pullers but obviously 1 would push.

2) find somewhere to sit it flat face down with the hub above nothing to stop it moving down and use a socket bit to press the hub out if you have a press to use then remove circlip then a anther socket to remove the bearing.

I have no bearing puller n always done option 2 because l only used a press, apart from my transits which had the same bearing fitment as your previous model like Shearers l used to use a heavy duty chisel to move the bearing away from the hub then with a grinder cut carefully through the bearing to remove it.

I am guessing but to use a press, you'd need to remove the complete knuckle or strut and use a tube in your press?
The diagrams look like the come from ETIS (at least that's what my 2011 ones look like)
To do the job on the car and if certain it's a separate bearing that is pressed into the hub, you'll likely need circlip pliers to get that out then a tool perhaps like this (but there are multiple other tools proposed):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403973377032
I think this would have a fine threaded rod with multiple spacers that can be set up to apply the force to the correct race and you'd need a tube to allow the bearing to come right out i.e you don't apply the removal (probably doesn't matter) or fitting (definitely does matter) forces through the balls. I'm sure you know that.
If it's a bolted in bearing then that changes things entirely.
All of that needs checking of course?

First the wheel knuckle needs to be removed from the vehicle. Next the wheel hub and wheel bearing needs to be pressed out using a bearing press, general pressing tools and special tools.

Care must be taken not to apply any load onto the inner bearing race while pressing.

After hours of searching, I think Ive made progress chatgpt decodes my vin:

Make: Ford

Model: Ranger

Market: Australia / EU (6FP)

Model year: 2022 (VIN year code N)

Platform: Ranger PX MkIII (T6.2)

Drivetrain: 4WD

Brakes: ABS + ESP (ESP+)

And that leads to a complete  bolt-on hub & bearing assembly:

Ford part number: KB3Z-1104-B

Although there is an alternative after market:

MOOG 515207 — Front Hub Assembly

The joys of owning a Ford single cab pickup.

I rellay appreciate the feedback given here which kept me going.

I also sent a request to a fords part company, so will hopefully get confirmation when open next week.

I'm not yet a big believer in AI but that may change.
As you say, suppliers should be able to supply the correct parts as even our local corner shop supplier now checks the reg number.
Best way would perhaps be to take the wheel off and actually look at it to confirm, or look at the back for bolt heads?
Glad you seem to be making progress and wondering if you are certain it needs replacing and that you are going to change the correct side?
It's a shame when you change one and it makes no difference so you have to do the other side too (don't ask!)

If you want to tell me the VIN (just message me) and I'll get the Ford build sheet.

Gotta love diagrams that state how it's done but never shows the tool that holds the the main part 🤦‍♂️ certain types of garage or bearing press placeswould have the correctthing for holding the hub knuckle but when it's home diy you need to think what will take the pressure while at the same time hold the correct position. While removing then when replacing because both sit differently and the shape and size changes.

Think you will find it was 2/1/2026. The date on the UK FOC site is totally stupid and very confusing. Anyone could be forgiven for thinking this is the US FOC 🙁
