Choosing tires for Ford

Featured Replies

Guys, I’ve been paying more attention to my car's wheels and tires lately because it started to feel unstable in heavy rain, especially on the highway. After trying a couple of cheaper sets, I realized how much of a difference proper rubber makes in braking distance and steering feedback. Based on my experience and research, Michelin tires stand out for their durability and consistent grip in mixed weather. They're not cheap, but they maintain their performance well as they wear. The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen2 is a sensible all-season option if you don't want to swap tires twice a year. It offers stable wet handling and decent light snow capability. Hankook sits nicely in the mid-range segment, usually providing strong wet performance for the price without feeling overly soft in corners. For winter setups on heavier Fords, such as the Kuga . Personally, I swap between summer and winter sets because I prefer maximum grip year-round. I'm interested to hear what setups you guys are running and how they handle in real conditions. Sometimes I choose tires on Autodoc. Can anyone recommend other stores for quick ordering?

Unlikely to get much traction (tyre pun?) from enthusiasts on here but I use www.tyresavings.com and look for the cheapest tyre with at least C (Fuel), B (Braking) but unlikely to deliver to you?
They use local fitters who have always been polite and efficient and respond to queries very quickly.
They do a massive range up to premium brands.
The fitters I use also deal with caravan tyres and Tyron Bands! (caravan Marmite thing!) and suppply the most recently manufactured to extend the time they last (caravan tyres don't wear out they usually age and 7 years is one deadline)

I tend to stick to Michelin (Pilot Sport) or Continental (Sport Contact) and I do run Winters on one car when it is cold !

Living in Hampshire I have been using Micheldever Tyres for over forty years.

Black and round ones I always find the best! 😛

But seriously, my advice would be buy the best you can afford. Remember tyres are the only things that have contact with the road. Have a look at Tyre Reviews.com which has lots of (independent) tests of tyres, as well as user reviews. It's best to look at tests using the same (or similar) tyre sizes.

My car came with Michelin PS4 and I've replaced them with all-seasons. I initially bought a pair of Michelin CrossClimates as everybody seamed and still do to rave how good they are. Then replaced the other pair with the Goodyear vector all seasons. As the CCs wore, I wasn't that impressed by their wet grip, some tyre tests do comment on their poor wet grip too. No problems with the Goodyears. Both pairs lasted over 30k miles which I am impressed and pleased about. I have now replaced all 4 with Pirelli All-season SF3, which seams to be currently winning most tyre tests. I wanted to try CC3s to see if they've improved in the wet, but they don't do them in my size.

Absolutely👍🏻

Our 2017 Focus ST-Line had Conti (whatevers) on from the factory and used to wheelspin and understeer like mad.

When I changed the four I put Chinese Accelleras on that were B for rain C for economy for £50 each and it stick to the road like the Labour Party's performance on a blanket

I am very surprised about Conti, I've always said they are a safe choice. I'd always imagine the cheap Chinese budget tyres would be the worst. The only comment about OEM tyres are we've had Bridgestones that cracked on edge and tread after a few years.

Anyway, going back to one the OPs questions. I've never heard of Autodoc, it might be specific to your country. I have used the UK based Camskill many times. They gave very quick service, delivering them within a few days. I'd imagine they do overseas orders too. I've also used Mytyres a few times, which took a little longer. I understand tyres are shipped from Germany, but might be wrong. There is Blackcircles, but no idea if they deal with overseas orders.

Only if you don't watch what you're buying and buy poor rain and economy grades (Below "C") they're out there!

I've seen "G" for rain😬

....if you think Accelleras are in any way even comparable to any Conti, you've gone mad. Nobody else in the world, especially those who test tyres for a living, would agree with you.

But it's good to be different 🤣

I'm guessing you live in the USA? Look at the reviews on tirerack, and find a US Ford/Mustang owner website, as not only are different makes/models of tires available there vs Europe, the same named make/model US vs EU are often constructed completely differently.

And absolutely look at tyrereviews.com - excellent unbiased reporting/compiling of actual data.

My wallet and thirty thousand miles of service agreed with me.

That's all that matters👍🏻

It's the same belief some people have that Audis are somehow better than Skodas or Pandora isn't cheap tin
