Hey all

Went on a trip to York yesterday. Passing through Fulford I hit traffic. I dropped down the gears into 2nd to crawl. Traffic stopped and as I went to change from 2nd to 1st.

As pushed the clutch pedal down it felt as if it gave way like there was no resistance. After getting the RAC out and further inspection, theres a like a pin that comes off the pedal bar. Connected to this pin is the Master cylindar actuating rod.

This rod is slipping off the pin, every 4 or times I press the clutch down. I cant see or find anythin thats maybe ment to be sat on the end of this pin to stop this rod coming off the pin.

I dont have anyone in my area i know that has a MK6

Anyone able to have a look on they're Mk6 and let me know

Mine did thus, but I was yards away from home on a Friday night. I couldn't work out what had happened, but my mum spotted it, so I put it back on, then went to work Saturday morning, and same problem yards away, so. Put a cir clip on the end that would stop it coming off!

Anyway, I wrote hat one off, in 2006, and in early 2007 picked up an 06. I had no problem with this, but in 2008 I picked up my mk7, and got a letter through about the problem, and quoted my 06 reg, to take it in to be sorted out!

I went to Ford in Sheffield today to have a word with them about it. Its a design fault. But they have a clip costing 41p to sort it.

I've orderd one and will be here tomorrow.

Hopefully this will sort it, if not im gonna drill a small hole in the pin and pug it to stop the rod coming off.

I know its only a 41p clip, but if its a design issue, why are you having to pay for the clip??? They should give it to you surely.

This was the subject of a recall a few years ago. I remember there was a recall receipt in with the owner's manual of my car (56 reg) when I bought it back in late 2007, for exactly this issue.

I'm just about to go down to ford now and pick up this clip. I didnt know they had done a servive recall because of this problem

Armed with this info im going to have a lil chat with them and see what they plan on doing about it.

I checked the ford Etis site and theres no outstanding actions to be taken it says.

Yup, happened to my MK6. Ford Australia told me that my 2004 Fiesta Zetec missed the recall, so i had to pay up and get a new master cylinder for the clutch as the lever broke. Two months later it started falling off again, they put a pin in and said goodbye. !Removed!.

I had the same problem but fixed it with the use of a casble tie to stop it slipping off.

im having the same problem with mine, 6 times its done it today at least in the space of 2 miles

I have just had this problem tonight for the first time I understand what you are all saying and I agree it's a kind of pin slipping off the pedal so is it just a clip I need or a bolt on the end to stop it slipping. Also did anyone have a grease like fluid on their pin because I saw a drop fall of the pedal when I went to look

Any help would be really appreciated

This problem is so !Removed! annoying! I asked the gent in fords about this and claimed to know nothing about it. Tried charging me for a new master cylinder/clutch kit for the car, I'm thankful to have found this thread!

They made the pin on the pedal longer on the facelift model to try and stop this, which didn't help when mine slipped, got wedged, and snapped the arm on the cylinder when I went to pull off at some lights...had to change the master cylinder because of this stupid design, which took 4hrs by myself and cost £50 for the part and fluid...I've put a jubilee clip on mine now to stop any sideways movement!!

Hi everyone. 1:15 this morning I get a call from my Daughter saying her clutch has gone. Being a dutiful dad, I go out and having tried the clutch myself, tow her home, .

The clutch traveled completely to the floor with no resistance.

Today, not knowing whether this was cable or hydraulic, I decided to do some research on the net.

I found the fault to be the rod from the pedal to the master cylinder having slipped off, with no means of holding it in place once I had slipped it back on.

My solution was to drill a hole in the pivot point on the pedal, slide the plastic push rod back on, fit a washer and split pin to hold it all in place. I found that with the rod not attached to the pedal, I had more room if I depressed the pedal and wedged it in place with a piece of wood.

Thought I would share this with you as I was expecting a new clutch. Easy fix for someone flexible enough to work in the footwell.

You can buy repair kits off eBay... But I much prefer your method! Haha :-)

Excuse me , the slipping- out of the Clutch master cylinder ( stupid design perhaps by " new chaps on the block " who just left some form of high college  / university ) can easily be " fixed by a Star - Locking  washer pressed onto the pedal pin ,once the push rod is in place . Measure the pedal pin Diameter and use star washer accordingly--- 8mm ?

How many of you did put back the water tight grommet when M/ Cyl replacement  ?- broken clutch pedal switch and the twisting / bayonet style clamping  of the clutch m/cyl really deserves a design award for stupidity as it is so liable to damage a brand new fitment 

At least the system is not as daft as the Clutch pedal ratchet of bygone Fiestas / Escorts !!!

 

I have known of this problem for years having read about it. But on my 2007 (facelift) Fiesta I did 146k miles before selling it and the part never slipped off. And I know it had no clip on it because I checked. So it does not happen to all of them. But at least I knew so I would know what to check if the clutch went loose to the floor. I like the repair pictured, this is the proper way to do a job and how it should have been built in the first place.

The kits off ebay are pretty good.

I got one for my Mother's Fusion after the pedal went in heavy traffic, the kit sorted it out and was easy to do.

Well give it a bit longer, ours has just started playing up with this problem at 270k km - 167k miles!

Hi sorry to bump an old thread but do you have a link to the kit on eBay, I can't seem to find one 

A similar thing has happened to my 2012 focus - the plastic push rod has snapped and looking for a replacement rod without having to change the master cylinder

this is probably the simplest way to fix it is you don't mind paying and waiting to arrive. 

star washer (as mentioned above) is quick to fit but they can be awkward to get off if you needed to at a later date

577 sold so a lot of people need them

do i need to remove anything to get to the clutch pedal to check under the car to check the connection. i had the master cylinder replaced 6 months ago but i now have no pressure on clutch but it returns up.

hoping its just popped of dont want slave cylinder repair
