Focus 1.6 Tdci Dpf Removal

Got it done by Avon Tuning near Bristol and would highly recommend them (but a bit far from you by the looks of it). It takes about 3 hours for the physical removal and remap to clear it from the electronic system. I think he writes his own maps which includes adjusting the settings to optimise it and the car has driven perfectly since with better mpg and more power. Its over a year ago but I think it cost around £350 give or take.

If only I could find someone as good as that to change the timing belt which is the next few hundred quid I need to spend...I don't like trusting it to someone who might not know what they are doing.

SNAP! It's the first time I've owned a focus. I had a 58 plate (newer shape) ford fiesta 1.6 diesel zetec s which run as sweet as a nut. Not sure if it had DPF but I traded it in for a 07 Ibiza FR. Me and my partner are expecting our first child hence the reason for the 5 Door focus.

The guys at the garage seem like decent people so I'm confident they will sort I just don't want to be going forward and backwards all the time due to the same problem as I have read many people have done. Do you have a link to their Web site? May look into having it done. Also get a day out too so bonus.

I'd rather travel and have it done through a recommendation than test someone.

What milage does the belt want to be changed?

Don't have much to add to that to be honest. Theres enough stuff on the internet, including other discussions on this website, to make up your own mind on how to deal with this waste of space so-called technology that has been dreamt up by EEC burocrats who have no idea just to meet their own made up emissions targets...

Sorry, sent the previous post before I saw this one. Just google Avon Tuning and its the first one which comes up.

Timing belt is due at 120,000 miles but most recomend it is done before because they are known to go bang. I've just topped 100k so really need to get it done. Ford are looking to charge over £450 and I'm sure a good independent garage will do it for less, just a matter of who I will trust. I would do it myself if I had the time, would even invest in the propoer specialist tools. Unfortunately there is this thing called work which takes up most of my time.

Just had word from the garage and the problem that caused the faults that I posted earlier was a turbo release valve.

Not sure what significant role this plays.

Can anyone expand?

As you probably know. This wasn't the cause of the problem and the garage still has my car. They have an auto electrician coming out tomorrow, not sure what he is going to do as the garage said they have done everything they car with what equipment they have.

The DPF is a real nuisance and had I known about the problem before I bought my 1.6 Diesel Focus six years ago I would have chosen another vehicle. However, if you remove the DPF as so many of these "experts" offer to do then you will have a problem. According to the law, you need to inform your insurer if you modify the vehicle and according to enforceable laws, removal of the DPF makes your car illegal and should not be on the road. The solution is to replace the DPF and a good local garage should be able to do for for around £400, obviously a lot more if you take it to a main Ford dealership. My car ran without any problems until it reached 80K but it would probably have gone further if I had known about the impact of doing short journeys etc. Still, we live and learn by our mistakes.

to be honest, the removal if done right could always be played by ignorance.

If the unit is welded back up and passes an MOT, then you could always claim you bought the car and havent modified it. You would then find they have to prove you did, and if you have no receipt, or evidence, then what can they do?

Im trying to figure out if mine has already had this done,bought the car a few weeks ago and  ive looked under the car where it is and there is two triangular shaped welds on the bottom of the dpf,

hopefully it is

Hi there i have same problem bought car yesterday as soon as i got home went out to local place got back in to come home and engine malfunction light came on what was the problem with yours and how much did it cost to fix cherrs 👍

Just a word of warning. The MOT test changes in May and not having a DPF when one was fitted will be a fail. Before you could get away with it if the housing was still there and it passed emissions. Now any smoke will be a fail and they now also check for emissions devices being removed (EGR and DPF).

Whats the best thing to do then buddy as already had new egr and took from garage today to get halfway home and limp mode yet again... thanks for responding too very apreciated 👍 its a 2009 focus 1.6 tdci 👍

Take it to a Bosch/Siemens/Denso/Marelli (delete as appropriate) diesel specialist.  Your average dealer isn't an in depth diesel diagnostic specialist, never mind most independents.

Likely to be glow plugs...  Common on these.

Get yourself an ELM327 cable or dongle and use FORScan to see what fault codes are stored.  We can then advise further.
