I have a 54 reg Fiesta(34,000miles) and we have been getting these same warning lights for the past 6 weeks. We have taken it to our local garage who changed the spark plugs, and when that didn't work they have put a new alternator in. We thought this had done the trick but 2 days later we are now getting the same lights appearing. I have read through your posts and I have to hold my hands up, I know very little about cars but I intend to take some of this info back to the garage to help resolve this matter but I would be interested to hear whether Marc's theory worked.

Any further updates on this issue would be graefully received

hi guys it seems quite a lot of you are having problems with repairable ecus but ford dealers have to quote for NEW ECU's as thay can't fix em, well i repair and load latests software on ford ecus for a set fee of £150 all in. i can also confirm i use ford ids which is the diagnostic tool ford dealers use not some micky-mouse scanner off ebay. for more info please look here, regards steve

I've just had exactly the same fault on my daughter's 2006 Fiestawith 37000 miles on it. Having searched the net for answers I checked the speed sensors and harness and the supply voltages and earths to the Pump/module which were fine so decided to try and source a replacement part. Found one from Charles Trent Ltd delivered for £70.00 with a warranty. It took about 2 hours to replace cleared all faults and car is working fine now touch wood. I figured the price of the part was cheaper than getting the diagnostic check done to prove something I already knew.

Pymmy - did your solution work? If so could you re-explain in super dumb language what you replaced to fix it.

Would like to try and get this sorted as cheaply as possible and don't trust my local garage not to see the dollar signs on this one.

Hello all - sorry to dreg up a old topic. I'm having the exact same problems as the original poster and a few others.

My car (ford fiesta zetec s 05 - diesel) has recently been MOT'ed in November/December and I've actually not been using the car much (due to walking to work) - in the MOT i had new Brake pads and discs and a front right wheel bearing fitted.

 

it's been cold and moist and i think this has caused my battery to die, which i have since replaced last week. (so far £600 spent on a car i haven't driven much).

 

now the ABS fault has begun, I have a very intermittent ABS Light - but mostly on. Sometimes the Mileage goes to ------ and then the brake warning light comes on, sometimes the engine warning light aswell. I've also felt the steering feel notably heavier when it's doing that, but it's only when parking i notice it most.

 

I'm worried i will be forcing to shell out on all the above expenses when i really can't afford to spend another £600 on the car when it's only worth £2500 at best. Also I'm not a mechanic or even slightly mechanically minded to be able to do any of this myself.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions, would it help buying a diagnostic thing - i might be able to borrow one off a friend i'm trying to find out - but none of hte ones on amazon for £15 or so seem to list my Zetec S diesel, im assuming its all the same though?

Also I bought a £4 Elm327 Bluetooth adapter off eBay and used my android phone and a free app called fordsys. It quickly showed all error codes. Namely the lost communication with ABS module and no vehicle speed sensor

hi - this sounds exactly like what mines done. no idea about whether the brakes have binded (not mechanically minded in the slightest).

 

Is it best I just find a local ford specialist and look into it? am getting someone to do the error codes for me tommorow hopefully that will find out what it was. 

 

is it best i just ring around for prices or anything i can do to get the cost down as exact same as you, mileage disappeared, engine management light on. I've only just recently paid a lot on new discs and pads so highly likely its something to do with ABS module/sensors etc.

If you have no Speedo or mileage then itl be the ABS module. The cheapest way for you if you can't remove the module & pump yourself is to pay a mechanic to remove. Send it away for repair and then refit. Read on my thread for the fault codes and see if you have the same.

bump - local dealer tested my car, cleared out all faults from car as there was tons (battery recently died, he thinks this caused it)

 

he then redrove the car and 3 wheel speed sensors showing faults. except the one seized (this was just due to sitting in wet weather i think). it freed up mostly.

 

so he had a spare pair of sensors, tried them on. still faulty. So we assume it's the module. He then sent the module off to be tested (I presume ECU testing?) and they came back saying there's no error in the unit at all.

 

I've no idea what to do now. I still have this fault - they have offered they can rebuild the unit with new parts for £300 but with no guarantee at all - so if they are rebuilding it then surely if it's a fault in the code of the electronics or something then that's going to be transferred over?

 

Or i go to ford and get bent over for prices for the fix (as above probably £800+?)

 

What would you guys do? not sure what i can do and don't want to just waste money on no guarantee. Is there any way of getting some kind of guarantee i'm not throwing away money? (i'm not exactly flush on money..)
