hiya, i have a ford KA w reg, and the heater was stuck on hot. I have since replaced the heater valve, and the control pannel. The new issue that is the KA is now instead of blowing hot air, now only blows cold. are there any suggestions or way of fixing this issue as its becoming a major pain.

Sounds like one of the new parts is faulty. Try disconnecting the plug to the HCV, and put a multi tester on it. With the ignition on, see if you are getting a different reading between the hot and cold settings. If you are, it sounds like your HCV is not working. If you do not get different voltages, your control panel is faulty.

Where abouts are you?

maybe not a solution but a bit of advice. the ford Ka heater control panel requires a minimum signal feed of 1000rpm to operate the heater control valve. the heater control valve defaults to OFF (cold) if this signal is not found. you've replaced the parts I would have recommended but it would seem that maybe the signal feed isn't being supplied. unfortunately you have a W reg which is mechanical and doesn't have a rev counter to check if this feed is there. an oscilloscope would help you out but not many people have them. the signal feed into the heater control panel is supplied by the White and Black wire of the small plug on the back; just in case you have a spare 2-pot tacho going spare some where.

Seems to be some conflicting views.

My understanding was the default for the heater is the hot position as when tested on my old Puma and our old KA this was giving 0 volts. Cold was giving 12 volts plus.

Didn't have to have the car running either as I tested the new HCV before fitting it with the ignition on only.

This link has a similar issue and is worth a read.

You might want to post your question over at the ford ka owners club (www.fk-oc.com). Doesn't appear a lot of traffic comes through here very often and you might be able to get a quicker response over there.
