Windscreen Wipers Not Working

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with my car.

I've got a 1999 Fiesta Finesse that I've had just over a week - it's my first car.

The windscreen wipers have been working, but today gave up altogether. I have changed the fuse twice - each time I switch the engine of and then the wipers they work for a few seconds, and then the fuse blows again.

Any ideas why this would be? Is it something I would be able to fix or is it for a garage?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if it's a daft question!

is it defo the right amp rating of fuse you have fitted? if so you are defo getting a power surge from somewhere. could be an open wire somewhere in loop or mabye bad earth. it would be worth getting a manual and attacking it with a multimeter to see if you can find the fault. failing that then a garage should be able to track down the fault for you easily enough

Have you checked the wireing of the motor check for any cuts or lose wireing.

Could be the motors are worn out on them, it's a fairly old car now. Take it into a garage and see what they say :)

Hi

I recon the wiper motors either on its way out or the mechanism is sticking causing it to draw to much power and blowing the fuse. Try putting some light oil down the wiper pinion and fitt a slightly larger fuse, switch on the wipers to full speed and see if they free off. If not then its probally a new motor. <_<

Do not fit a larger fuse you will end up damaging something. Lube and joints or pivots and see how it goes.
