Hi mate, lovely choice of vehicle to modify, I've always had a sweet spot for the Escort vans because they can look mean!

I would have thought side skirts from a three door would fit, there's no difference in the chassis.

I think as far as fitment goes you'll need 4x108 PCD, however if you search for 'Escort Alloys' on eBay you'll find some really nice wheels, you could even get some GTi alloys but they might be a little too small for a van...

As far as other mods you could do, have you thought about lowering it? I've seen a few modified Escort vans and lowered slightly with some big alloys they look proper cool.

Not sure how many mods you could do to your engine, but some colour hoses always look cool. There's lots to choose from on eBay.

Hope that helps,

Dan :D

Little b***ards, no matter how much we work and struggle to live there's always scum that will damage other people's stuff. No point reporting it to the police 'cos they won't do anything. So if you catch the little buggers take the matter into your own hands, it works ;).

Dug up this thread which suggests you'll need to get hold of a door from a 5door Escort from a MK6.

I would have thought the 3 door would be what you'd need but thinking about it the doors from the 3 door are a lot longer, like the doors from a 3 door Fiesta. My 5 door MK5 Fiesta doors are shorter than my mates 3 door Zetec S MK5 Fiesta, if that makes sense lol. But go for doors from a 5 door, they're pretty easy to fit mate too just a couple of pins and they lift off half hours job :).

Just out of interest, what's the mileage on your van? My brother has always had Escorts and like me proper loves the Escort vans, he had the 1.8 non turbo diesel and it had 150,000 miles and was still going strong as ever! 50+ mpg so who cared if it was slow, the only thing he had to do in the two years he owned it was replace the timing belts when the water pump started to leak. So we did it on my drive and only took a few hours, those diesel engines are so simple to work on. I kind of wish I went for a diesel Fiesta instead of the 1.25 Zetec, but couldn't be too picky with the money I was spending. The diesels in nice condition seemed to fetch more.

hi dan .. that's exactly what i meant about the different size doors so u confident the 5 door -front doors will fit

well funny u should say its a 2001 mk6 1.855d non turbo 150330 miles slow (plod along empty)

bin having a look about im guessing the gti skirts are the ones to have for a van ??

used to have a old esc van r reg 89000 miles after 2 engines it went bye bye shame as it had a load of ice in it ,,thumpt along with 6 - 6x9s. 2-3"mid. 2-8"mid and 2 splX 1000w subs ..had it all matted in the inside ..shook the floor u stood on ... thats now in my primera 2.0sri preg sitting unloved on me drive

50+mpg i like the sound of that .. was getting 20 in my prim.. its tuned tho

Hey mate, yeah absolutely from reading that other thread it seems you'll need a door from a 5door MK6, I'm confident on that and someone would have corrected me if I was wrong by now :D lol. If you can get one in the right colour that's a bonus if not you'll probably be able to give a good spray and clear coat yourself with good results, and it should be a straight swap with the old door.

Found some nice side skirts on eBay click me.

I'm not sure whether Escort MK6 GTi skirts will fit as the van might be slightly different, so if it was me I'd be inclined to go for something like those on eBay as they're a gauranteed fit that way being for the Escort van.

Argh mate you're getting me wanting an Escort van now :D I've always loved them and are one of those cars which is just great fun to work on and do up.

Let me know if you need some more advice & get some piccies up if you do the work because it would be an interesting read as a project thread!

That actually looks really tidy! Great job on the arches, can't even tell they've been done over :)

I missed your question about the Speakers, I'm not entirely sure tbh. My Fiesta MK5 has seperates for the treble and mid in the doors, and then in the back I've got the 'bass' Speakers - even though they sound rather tinny to me :P.

If you pop the door panel off and then measure them, and then have a look on eBay for example and get some nice Speakers. Any good brand will be better than the standard fit speakers.

Right.

The doors you will need will be from a 5 door model.

The sideskirts from the car will not fit as there is a difference in length by around 5"

Wheels as has already been said are 4x108 ET38 although some will foul on the rear inner arch, you may want to use spacers.

Car stuff will fit the interior and front end but for bumper on the rear you will need aftermarket.

For power you could fit the TD engine which will give you an extra 20bhp or go the whole hog and fit a 1.8 zetec or RS2000 engine. Though the latter 2 require a LOT of work.

funny u should say that about swapping engines .. iv just bin offered a rs turbo engine and box and running gear for £200 lol .. it's on a crate in a m8s garage now 4 next year ..or wait til petrol prices drop as thats the reason for taking my primera off the road with it bean b.t.t.c. spec as u imagin it only dose 17 to 30 mpg its standard on the outside mental underneath. 225bhp .custom 1off exhaust in t305 ss made at aas in lemington newcastle. Rossini disks and hard stuff pads front and rear .. brake bios 75front 15rear with abs. timing advanced 15*. polished and flowed head .. head shimmed 5 mill.. high lift cams . lighted and balanced crank as is the 3 peace clutch kit and fly wheel nissan 350 injectors high volume mist type .

check here for picks and other things iv done in the past http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p95/mikep10sri/?start=all

mist type jets are a good idea .. but on me old van i had white led jets and a secondary side light in the indicator which looked awesome in the dark ..

im defo going for the reversing bulbs that would help massively in the van at night

bin looking around for wheels and i quite like the look of the couga wheels . but no one has told me whether ther 5 stud or 4 or if they will fit van couger.png

what can i do to the back lights .... think im going to have a go with sum fiber glass and make sum covers so the light have 4 round sections .like this but round covers.jpg

just mesured the skirts of me primera and there spot on length wise what a stroke of luck lol...

as for lowering the back end with it been leaf spring i imagen putting a short steel plate at the top and clamping spings back to force them flat ..would i have to mess with the brake load sensor

can any 1 tell me if the barrel on the back doors of the van are the same as the front door barrels as ther all pritty shot as well as the keys . hopefully it going in tomorrow (ford parts in dunston) to get them sorted , new ignition new front door locks but he aint got the rear van door lock . so i was thinking would a front door barrel not work ..the one on the rear door is about 1.1/3" long held in by a flat squire cir-clip.

and talking to Paterson ford he sed he can re-tumble the new lock to match the new keys i get for the front doors for £15

Hey mate, nice one on the Speakers & once you get some bigger ones fitted it will improve your sound no end. You're a braver man than me though, but saying that, I did fit some 6x9s in the doors on an Astra. Granted I just cut away the trim panel and threw away the grils, but the actual Speakers were good! B)

I remember looking for similar decals when I had my MK2 Punto, I was going to get some on eBay for the side that said "My Punto is reliable!" but then my headgasket blew :D haha.

I've just been looking on eBay and there's some decal kits, but you'll probably end up trimming them to fit which could turn out to be annoying. Your other option could be to speak to a graphics design place, and get some printed with your own measurements. If you explain it's for the exterior of the vehicle, then they should be able to provide your own custom decals which won't fade in the sunlight etc, and looking at the price of some on eBay (£65 for side decals) then it might turn out to be cheaper.

well u c in my renualt 5 i had 8" rounds in front doors 6x9s in the back doors and 2 6x9s on the shelf with 2 xplod subs in the boot all the doors had to be customised cutting metal to get the magnets through and mdf rings for spacers

well now its just a case of ££££ ... got the van back with new ignition and door locks .. starts champion now .. solved the engine issue it was 2 things ignition and the air hoses wer all full of crud .. runs and starts champion now . straight up to 70 with np.

striped all the ice out of the primera today its all lying in the back of the van at the mo .. need a sheet of 10 mm ply for to fit above compartment bulkhead leaving a foot gap to get in the back .. 4x 6x9 in there. and a sheet of 12mm mdf to make new speaker rings for front doors . 5" fusion mids to go in there..

having a look for sum where to put me 12" sub think im gana build a bandpass box infront of rear arch to the back of the bulk head (both sides and buy another sub)

also in me old van i had 8mm mdf lining the back doors with 4 6x9s in the top where the steel panels for the windows are for space for the magnets ..

me phone is knackered so ill not do any thing till i can take pictures ..lol

You are right this place is amazing, I remember my (short) time as a member of the Fiat Forum and most of the members were just downright nasty and stuck-up, so not somewhere you could go to ask for advice as you'd be made to feel stupid, unwelcome and an idiot.

Still, glad you've got the van running nice now & with more power. The 1800 Ford diesel engines are so reliable, and if they do go wrong they are sooo simple to fix. Real old school mechanics, I love it!

Love the ideas you've got planned, it will be really nice & what a fantastic project! Can't wait to see some pictures & updates mate :D

Hi mate, I think I might have a Haynes manual somewhere, it's either for the Escort (including the 1800 diesel) or it could be just the Haynes 1800 diesel engine.

I will have a look, and if I can find it I'd be more than happy to post it off to you :)

hi m8y if you would your a legend.....(manual).. but surly sum one will have copies on their pc

took sum picks today sum of them corrupted with me phone but so far

front door speaker before removal this was only held in by 2 screws top n bottom (both sides). no wonder it was rattling . its only got 3 hole on refitting i found another screw the same, where there was 2 surfaces together a fine bead of silicone in between to stop any rattles and vibrations

post-26154-0-94081800-1317934807_thumb.j

this was glued in and had 4 tabs holding the speaker in the mold a quick tap with a hammer and screw driver

post-26154-0-20545500-1317934826_thumb.j

the 5 "mids and tweeter just fit in the ring i cut out any bigger and the speaker molding would have just snapped probably ,

the fusion mids i had to go in here were 2 deep and hit the glass when window was down and with a spacer hit the inside of the door

so had to chuck sum cheep ones in just for now

post-26154-0-64211400-1317934813_thumb.j

also quick tip. wen u get the speaker disconnected pop out the female connectors by forcing a small flat head screw driver down the open end of the connector give it a wiggle about ..take out the driver and with a gentle tug of the wire the connector should !Removed! out the plastic housing ready to clip on the aftermarket speaker also a good idea to solder a small drop on to hold them in (or tape)

post-26154-0-24858400-1317934823_thumb.j

video.....

in and working ..no rattles so far .. got me finger over the mic to stop distorting

th_Video042.jpg

bulk had board template 1st attempt lol

post-26154-0-16181300-1317934829_thumb.j

finished pieces just need sum grab adhesive an sum self tappers to ft and silicone again for the edge where it meets the inside side of the van panels till i can wild sum brackets in place

post-26154-0-31834500-1317934817_thumb.j

that was today ill be messing on again tomorrow with the fusion mids mounted in that board behind my head lol
