gwillyboy Posted November 29, 2011 Share Posted November 29, 2011 hi .... I have a problem with my 2004 ford focus estate tdci 1.8 ... I bought the car second hand last year and after about a month the engine management light came on .... diagnosed by a garage as a failed turbo unit ... my mechanic bought a reconditioned unit for around 400 pounds and fitted it ... one year on the engine management light shows again and I can tell the turbo is not kicking in ... garage hooked up the computer and the fault read " oil coming pressure side of turbo , boost pressure control malfunction " or at least that s what my wife said ...I figured the turbo has blown again and took it back to the garage who fitted it .... he has taken the turbo off and inspected it as it is still under warrantee but he says it seems to be ok ... the fan spins and the flap opens and all seems well .. however on reassembly the light has gone out but the turbo doesn't kick in ... on driving the car accelerates ok at first but when you get to the higher revs above 2500 the turbo doesn't kick in and it lacks full power .... mechanic suspected perhaps insufficient fuel and changed filter but this did nothing ... so we have a turbo unit that looks ok but its not working .. what could be the problem ? he is unsure ... he says there is a very tiny vacuum leak but enough to be insignificant .... why would the car have a turbo problem twice in a year? what could the problem be now?
