Guide Additional 12V Power Socket In Boot Focus Mk2.5

Thanks for your post, I think your first option may be the best.

You make it sound so easy. How would I go about fitting a relay and run the sensor feed from ignition live to the relay you suggest? Are there any guides on this? The last time I touched wiring, I buggered the speaker wiring loom for my T reg Focus, I vowed never to go near any car wiring again!

its constant feed,
However you could fit a relay then run the sensor feed from an ignition live to the relay,
This would result in power only flowing when the ignition feed is live,

Another option is:
Change the 12v socket fuse location,
You see ford have two power supplys for the 12v sockets in the car,
If you have the fuse in socket 1:
The 12v sockets are constant live up to exactly 1 hour after engine off.
The GEM shuts down to save power after 1 hour.

Socket 2:
The 12v sockets only become live when the key is turned in the ignition.

But i dont know for sure if the 12v supply in the boot is fed from the same supply so you would need to try changing fuse socket an try it,
It may not be on the same supply because its origional purpose was to power a 12V foam tyre compressor which is why i suspect it is always going to be a constant live.

No it can't be that, I have sensors and they are plugged in elsewhere...

Never mind, probably find it was a earth and I wouldn't have needed to run my own!!

Thanks for the comments guys,

the positive feed would also be useful for anyone who planned to fit a sub in the boot, this cable would save them over an hour fishing a live feed from the battery all they way through the firewall and interior to the boot.

the focus is full of secrets :D

footwell lights, ST Pod markings under the dash, secret diagnostic menu, and now this additional 12v socket in the boot,

the car just keeps on giving

I had literally just been thinking the same thing, I've been looking to get my sub moved from my old car into my focus. Is this supply always live? because if so do you have any idea of a accessory supply that I can use so I don't have to fit a switch or anything?

The supply is permanent live the same as the front sockets.

I did it today,  will need to replace my rear winfow heater fuse now.  provided my own  ground wire  to the  bolt hole also tapped  into the boot light  to iluminate the ring

this may sound silly but how do the ford sockets stay in place? all the third party ones I've bought have a thing you screw on the back, do clips hold the front and socket together with the ford ones?

The surround needs to go in first then the socket locks in and splays out lugs.

Thanks for the guide!

I just did this mod, all is well but one thing. One of the plastic fasteners  is stuck in its metal counter part. the problem is the plastics its meant to be fastening down are not with it. I've tried digging it out with pliers with no luck. any tips? I assume i might need a needle nosed tool for it.
