Sierra 2.0 Gl Electrics

I have recently acquired a 1988 Ford Sierra 2.0l GL station wagon. VIN – JRCEH4501 (the H is damaged and could be an M) Chassis JR472196.

The engine is running roughly and it appears as if the engine motor control (computer) is not operating correctly. For instance it does not drive the stepper motor on the carburetor. The unit may be faulty but initially I suspect the wiring as I have found several wires with cracked insulation and shorts. I have stripped and cleaned the carburetor.

I have a Haynes workshop manual for the vehicle but the wiring has some variations to this. For instance there are three relays in the passenger footwell behind the fascia. The manual indicates that one of these is one of the ecm relays and the other two are ABS but the vehicle does not have ABS! At least one of the ‘ABS’ relays has something to do with the engine as the car will not start with this unplugged.

I have spent a fair bit of time on the internet looking for a wiring diagram for this vehicle without success.

I am based in Johannesburg (Northcliff), South Africa but none of my contacts here have been able to help.

Can anyone could help, find a wiring diagram or point me to some information on this.

Do you definitely have the correct Haynes manual as the Sierra was revised around 1987/1988??

Many thanks for the response. It says it covers from 1982 to 1993. Publish date 1996. ISBN 1 85960 090 5.
