cheb
I have got a noise coming from the front of the car, it like the wheels are rubbing on something, i have had 2 new front tyres put on the car and since then i haave had the noise, i first thought it was the tyres but checked and they were ok, the tyres i took off were both gone on the inside, but when they checked the tracking it was spot on, the noise is very loud at 20 to 3o mph then goes but can hear it then at different speeds to, could it be the wheel bearing that have gone, if anyone can shed any info on this it would be very appreciated thanks rob ford focus tdci 1.6 zetec 2006
artscot79
Strange is the car lowered ? To check the bearing jack the car up and spin the wheel listen for noise then try to wobble the wheel side to side. The tracking may be okay but clearly the suspension isnt
cheb
i have done all the checks that you do but the wheel as no wobble at all, i think i will just change the bearing to be on the safe side, thanks for the info cheb
artscot79
if theres no noise and no wobble its likely not the bearing i still reckon the front arm bushes
jeebowhite
Could be the CV joint, always worth a look at the rubber coverings of the CV joint, and see if there are any fractures or dirt clods around that particular location.
Barry_
if theres no noise and no wobble its likely not the bearing i still reckon the front arm bushes Agreed - if its anything like my old Escort the front wishbone bushes went and this ate up the inside edge of the tyre - you could look and the tyre from the out side and it would look new - check the inside edge and it could be down to the canvas. Although only really made a knocking noise on acceleration or braking. Suppose noise could be bearings but don't think they would cause the uneven tyre wear - likely to be suspension issue causing that. Also try swapping the new front to the rear and stick the rears on the front to check its not some wierd noise linked the the new tyres.
