key programming problems

Hi!

Bought a Focus 53 plate two weeks ago. It only came with one manual key however and I wanted to use the remote function.

So found a locksmith who could cut keys and got myself another manual key made so I had two.

Read that I could program my own third key now I had two keys (as the original ford key had a blue tab) so bought a remote locking key off eBay

However, while the remote part programs and functions fine, I can't get the key to program to the immobiliser using the method mentioned in the handbook!

Any one any idea's where I'm going wrong?!

Thanks for any help

I think you will find that to program an additional remote keyfob one of the two existing keys also need to be a remote.

Thats incorrect. If he took the original key to a locksmith, they will have cloned the chip inside the key. So in effects although you have 2 physical keys the car sees just the one chip code and assumes its the same key being used twice. To programme PATS you need two completely different key code chips that the car already knows. Did you also post this on Focus Owners, cos I gave this reply last night too.
