Mk3 Prices Drop

I am so glad I didn't buy the Mk3 last April. They wanted £16,300 for the 1.6 Edge at the time, so I bought a Mk2.5 Sport for £12,900 instead.

Now the Edge is under £12k and the Zetec is £13.6k. I would have been gutted to lose that much value on top of normal depreciation.

the new focus hasnt done as well as ford thought it would for a lot of reasons the economy for one and the price giving you can get more reliable makes with good spec and 5-7 year warranties for a few grand less. i saw a mondeo titanium x in the showroom for 31,000 for a ford i dont think so but theyre you go

Seems like a lot of manufacturers have implemented price increases. I had a Civic before the Focus which cost £19.5k. Equivalent spec New Civic is £23k (3 yrs later).

To confirm the above is a dealership wide effort to shift stock:

In the two years four months since I bought my second hand Mk2 Focus from a semi local Ford Dealership, I've never had a text message from them.

Well last week I did, it was as expected a brief message.

For all its pre launch hype as a "World Car" it is obvious to all but the blind, that here in the UK the Mk3 Focus has not been received with the same enthusiasm as the mould breaking Mk1 Focus and even it's blander but nonetheless technically better and roomier Mk2 version.

Personally, it looks to Asian to me, also the Mk2/2.5 sat nicely in-between the Fiesta Town Car and the ever bigger every model upgraded Mondeo in the executive car sector [ nodoubt a reflection of car manufactures acknowledging UK society is heading towards USA levels of obesity]

The Focus filled the "one car family" remit in that it was not only fun to drive, but it was spacious [ especially width wise ] it could seat five in reasonable comfort, and had a decent boot. That once the back seats were let down it could take an assembled Ikea kitchen table and four chairs. You could say now it's just a Fiesta that has been fed on steroids, but unfortunately in this instance it's bum ain't as big as the Mk2.5

The differences that made the Focus brand stand out are not there now as far as I'm concerned, and disappointing sales figures would suggest I'm not alone in thinking that.

It now has the look of one of the many Asian styled cars out there. And if that is not a turn off as a buyer, then why not buy a decent spec'ed Cia Ceed with a seven years peace of mind warranty

rant over

Yes they certainly saw you coming Sara. Coincidently at the time you informed the board of you intended purchase I all but stated as much. In that I could not understand the logic of you contemplating trading in your late model Mk2.5 for the Mk3, other than you took the advise of a guy who has a vested interest in shifting new cars over that of people on your side here on the forum.

But as they say ....................you can lead a horse to water but...................

Hi, I brought my car in sept for £17k so I'm not complaining, however It is common for the price of a car to drop a year after they have first come out anyway. But we are talking discounted dealership figures not what ford state as I think they've not changed..

Also if you look back over a number of years, Ford dealerships have always offered big discounts - normally by pricing high in the first place.

Now you have explained the circumstances in detail regards your boss's attitude to your car problems, I see your predicament Sara. Never a good time to make buying decisions when under such duress.

Anyway I take it your happy with the car in it's self.

Premium prices on new models followed by discounting is as another poster pointed out par for the course. Once the "must have the latest " demand has been sated, discounting is used to maintain sales momentum.

the focus is and will be overtaken by these asian cars and its a simple equation. 7 year warranty extremely well built and quality checked not like the focus will faulty stop starts dodgy keyless entry poor fitting doors et,c some people do not want to spend a lot of cash to have these silly faults.it doesnt show faith that fors still offer only 3 years warranty way behind even cheverolet who offer 5years in this economy its what people want.. cheap reliable with low running costs and peace of mind. i have no issues saying my next car will not be a ford due to theyre rubbish dealers rip off prices even for parts the silly faults that they including the new foci that was so well tested allegedly have and the fact the galvanised bodies rust like old bean tins

I do appear to have the knack of invigorating debate on threads that are not attracting the attention they deserve

Now whilst I don't think anybody has taken any personal offence in my writing style on this thread, maybe now is the time to up date my sig........to explain same..........so watch that space :D

Yeah I'm happy, I would of kept the other one if it wasn't for all the problems I experienced, I'm not technically minded and the warranty was about to run out, I was losing sleep over the dam thing I had vision of massive ford bills and constant trips to ford!

The faults you list are not just particular to Ford. Try looking at Stop/Start problems on BMW / MINI forums - their a lot worse off than us lot. These 'modern features' are supplied by third parties and integrated into a mfr's own products so faults are similar across different suppliers.

Also, you always go for the best deal you can at the time of purchase... you would probably haggle with the dealer and maybe even shop around (I bought mine from a dealer in Leeds despite living in Cambridge).

A better deal will always come along later, that's just life!

In the past I have had numerous new company cars, sometimes replaced every 6 months, I would put 10,000 miles on the car and also have to sort out all the new build faults under warranty, only to then pass a well-sorted car on to the next owner.

Now I run my own car, and always buy a low mileage 2-3 year old car that has had all the problems sorted by the first owner, it's also lost a fair chunk of depreciation.

I stand by my comment, the Cee'd is the Focus with a different badge. Granted I wish it had a bigger boot, but all in all, aside a few inches shorter, and thinner, I stand by the fact that I often forget that I am driving the korean counterpart.

Given half a chance, I would trade this in for a new one, and would personally make the effort to go for an SW, or consider the likes of hyundai i40, against the Kia Optima.

As a reasonably priced car, its worth the investment, and has already saved me money... (oooh.. update to my Au-revoir Focus thread me thinks...)

The MK3 is a nice looking car, but as Catch said, I think its dimensions just let it down that little bit too much, to allow most people easy response to the question "Mk2.5 or Mk3?"

having the mk2 and seeing the 2.5 still has issues that the mk2 had which were the same issues the mk1.5 had and the same as the mk1 given the honest choice............ neither ide opt for a kia or hyundai most likely the kia.

ive had an escort mk2 ans mk3 a fiesta the first mondeo the mk1 focus and now an 06 mk2 in between ive had seat cordoba and ibiza vw passat 20v a fiat punto and an old 95 hyundai accent the most reliable and cheapest to run of them all was the hyundai a battery in 4 years that was it.
