Rear Passenger Side Footwell Wet

Bumped into a bit of a soaking problem in my car. The rear passenger side footwell is somewhat wet and now smelly.

I can't identify where its coming from though, it seems to be predominant after driving in the wet (not consciously noticed it when its rained hard and the car has been idle) as the carpet looks like its been rained on. Its not at the sides but more in the centre of the carpet too.

Door seals look ok, and no water running down them.

I'll try and snap some shots of the carpet tonight after driving to Guildford.

Check under the car for obvious holes... I remember my mate had a similar problem a few years back in a Citroen, and there was a gaping great hole under the car. You could stick your finger through it!

At first I thought it was my mates had dropped beer in the back, but it didn't smell like that originally the first time I noticed it was damp. But recently I hoovered the car, and I took up the foot mat and it was soaking wet under neath but not a puddle. I did check the front but thats perfectly dry, and its got a lump down the middle anyway so its not like it would be slooshing forwards and backwards.

I'd like to hope that my MK2.5 hasn't gone the way of the old escorts and have a great big hole in the bottom! Its only 4 years old!

i would assume so god knows how that went missing it comes out from the inside and is usually bonded i would get a new one and use tiger seal to make sure it stays well and truly fitted dont worry about going mad with the stuff get it well stuck while youre at it cover the edges of the other one while its in place

Same Here........please post some pics so I can see what I need to check.

63 plate Focus

Mine is the rear passenger foot well only. Front totally dry. Checked the door seal which looks ok and no evidence of it coming from anywhere obvious. No water marks anyway to show a sign either.

Help!

There are several common leak issues but for different generations of Focus:

  1. MK2/MK2.5 Focus hatchback can leak via the spoiler mounting holes as well as where the wiring for the rear light clusters enters the bodywork.
  2. MK3 Focus hatchback can (usually does) leak via a vent hidden under either side of the rear bumper.

Either issue is specific to just that generation of Focus, although the search functionality for this forum is total crap, a quick search should return a lengthy/detailed forum thread about the rear bumper leaks on your generation of Focus, the thread includes step by step instructions/pictures from people who have carried out a repair that seems to permanently resolve the issue.

Edit - It's pretty much the 1st stickied thread on the Focus forum, the pictures are spread across a few posts both if you work through the pages that make up the thread you should have a solid idea as to what causes the issue and what needs to be done to fix it.

Hi I have a 55 plate focus and have recently had heater matrix replaced due to front drivers mat being soaked n througn and coolant draining after driving a few miles..

I am convinced I still have a leak after I dried up all sound proofing and under carpets in drivers side, then when I feel now is wet again.. I have checked the footwell but the wet is coming from under drivers seat and is now in rear passenger footwell behind drivers. Could this be a blocked air con or what as the coolant is t leaking any more??

Hi I’m having the same problem my focus is 2015 model my rear passenger footwell is soaking and the rear side passenger seat seems to be going the same way- from the boot. When I check the boot it’s dry so I must b coming from underneath the rear seat 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hello,

I am the owner of a Ford Focus Zetec 125 Auto. Over the last month found the car difficult to demist, and have given the car a clean have found water in the spare wheel footwell and the rear passenger footwell. Would anyone on here know what could be causing this? In the last 4 months the only work we had done on the car is an MOT and a Clutch Replaced.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the vents behind the rear bumper to me, a common issue. I've just sorted mine out , not too bad of a job tbh.

I am having the same problem with my Fiesta but mine you can visibly see the water through the carpet! There was a grommet missing under the spare wheel so I’ve sealed that up, the boot is mow dry but the footwell is still soaking wet. Is there any way I can seal it up without ramps or taking it to a shop? I’m worried because I am now getting condensation on the inside of the car!
