Sound System!!

I drive often with my two big dogs in the car! But I want a big sub installing! My idea to to take out my spare wheel and use the wheel well as my sub box! ( basically putting a ply lid on the wheel well and installing a sub inside that! Running an amp from under my seat! Would this) work? Sound good? It will be easier to remove the spare to take the dogs out than it would a sub

its a great way of space saving if your using your boot all the time. it would sound better if you use sound dreading your spare wheel well including all of the boot. u could also build a base box for the sub to sit in, which i think would be better.

it would be easier if u attach your amp the back of your rear seats. if done right will look nice and clean.

The spare wheel compartment will be ok, but you have to build a sealed enclosure.

Simply mounting the sub on a ply shelf will not work.

My last sub build was for the under floor storage area in the boot of a S-Max.

I took a fibreglass moulding from the car to build the enclosure and a lid made from MDF.

You haven't got an air cannon on that? are you sure its gonna hold with all that pressure building up?

Yeah you want to do something like that, Before you go diving in to take the mould of your boot put some foil down first, stops the fibreglass sticking to the body then.

It's not designed to be ported.

Although the subs used can accept a ported enclosure, the bass sounds tighter when sealed. It provided 1.5 years of trouble free service before I sold the car.

Thanks you guys!! I was thinkin of simply attaching the amp under the drivers seat as I drop the rear seats ALOT! I do like the fibreglass moulding! Is it cheap n easy to do

I can not get the link up but there's a large kit in Halfords, it says 25cm x110cm will this be big enuf??

You can buy large fibreglass kits from specialist suppliers online.

The important part is to make sure your mould is watertight as any fibreglass that seeps through and touches your car interior is going to permanently damage it.

I normally line the interior with at least 3 to 4 layers of thick masking tape in a criss-cross pattern, then apply a layer of foil, then spray the mould with the Mrs. expensive hairspray (this acts as a release agent).

When the hairspray is dry, layer strips of fibreglass matting with fibreglass resin again in a criss-cross pattern and flatten with a metal roller.

When the fibreglass has hardened remove it from the car.

Also be aware that using a wheel-well is going to limit the size of the subwoofer considerably. Shallow mount types are going to be your best option here and make sure your enclosure is big enough for the subs minimum rated air space.

Hi, how much would you charge to make one of them again 😉

Are they 8s or 10s, how do they play with the 6&7 seats down? And did you leave the lid on? Did you fibreglass all the way down. I really want to try this but have never done anything like this before
