At slow speed I have this rubber on rubber kind of rubbing sound. Im thinking maybe front arb bushes and its a cheap part .. rare to say that.

they don't look majorly worn but I can only see the putter side.

I did want to find out from you guys whether this us a simple to replace part for my focus ? 1.8 04 petrol focus.

Even if its not usually worth changing these.

thanks *thumbs up* I must stop doing that my daughter says its embarrassing lol

quite a few have this issue and i can confirm its not front bushes nor is it droplinks nor is it the front wishbones or steering joints nor is it anything that fords master techs can find or half a dozen independant garages fords advice leave it till it gets so bad it can be identified they did however spray all suspension components with white spray grease take it from me and a few others dont waste youre cash

have you checked the lower arm bushes and ball joints? i used to get this in my mk1 when driving at low speed shortly after i changed my track rod ends, in my case it was the lower arm bushes

I was referring to the O/P with regards to the bushes.

Ford are full of excuses, if the car didn't come out the factory with the noise or problem then there is an issue with something it's just a case of finding it. And IMO that's something ford are no good at.

We have 3 mk2 focus' in the family and a few friends with them with none of the issues your having? Age ranging from 2005 onwards

theres a few posts on here with these issues however the noise is intermittent and goes away after a few corners only starts sometimes from cold doesnt happen all the time seems to be cold weather particularly after its been raining ford arent good at finding faults but the indy i used is a suspension pro dealing in full replacements and race suspensions as well as 4 wheel tracking and suspension uprating even he was scratching his head

Seems there is a bit more to it than I thought. Sounds like you've done battle with this problem art. Sounds like you have had all the suspect parts replaced to no avail.

Mine does it all the time now only when parking, or moving the steering wheel slowly at slow speeds only, which made me suspect the arb bushes.

Its slowly driving me up the wall.

Before that I had a slow knocking over bumps which turned out to be a drop link so and easy fix. Might be banging my head on a brick wall here.

I'll have a poke around as someone moves the steering wheel and see or hear if I can hear where it is coming from. Worth a shot.

If I discover anything I'll post back but from all those specialists and ford techs I might be a bit lost at sea. Buuuut as stef says its go to be coming from somethwhere caused by something so the hunt begin! :)

You'd think I could find something better to do with my Sundays hehe

in my case it dissapears after a few corners so by the time i get it there theres no noise but all the pulling and poking in the world found nothing it would be interesting to see what you find it will be coming from somewhere its just a question of where i read a post on another forum of the same issue while the car was in warranty the dealers literally replaced the suspension to no avail before ford said were not paying anymore money to find this issue if i had to hazard a guess i think it may be the strut bearings

As arscot has said a few people have this issue, one of them being me

Mine is a metallic like clunking mainly as the brake pedal is pressed, but sometimes when going over a bump. I have had wishbones, and droplinks replaced to no avail, even though the wishbone bushes were knacked. I myself suspect a suspension strut mount or something like that. When we had torrential rain a couple of days ago, I did not hear the noise until things had dried out..... Yesterday on the way home from work, I had to stop the car on the motorway hard shoulder, as when I braked ( the mway was doing around 50ish....) there was an almightly clunk from under the car, I thought something had dropped off. All appeared OK, but I am going to get the car on a lift, and me and a mechanic have an almightly poke around.

Will let you know what I find....

the clunk could have been a coil spring snapping

was in at ford today who took the car for a test then stuck it on the alignment machine then inspected it with me there the guys could find nothing the only thing the guy said was in my case wait till it gets a bit worse he did say if the creaking is all the time then its likely the upper strut mount bearings to check spray wd40 right up in the strut and see if it aleviates it any

also the slight knock on braking they tracked to the drivers side inside pad sticking so the abs thought the wheel was turning with the brakes sticking and tried to activate abs on the passenger side to compensate stripped the brakes down cleaned and greased and the noise has stopped
