R.i.p Fiesta

Considering i have a similar looking fiesta it had my eyes open. Do your own investigation and have ford look at it because it's too new for it to go up in flames for no reason. While the 1.4 engine's do get hot very quickly it should be able to survive 4 hours of driving. I actually went to feel around the back tyre to see if it was possible water got to the fog light. While i have mud guards it is actually possible but the wire is covered.

Evening all After spending most of the day on the phone and searching the Internet I've found some alarming news

The was on case in south Africa where a 10 plate fez spontaoulsy Caught on fire however I'm unable to find any more information afterwards

15.000 flestas were recalled in USA as they had faulty wiring and some caused fires inthe cars

Ive also had some news from my insurance that they are sending fire investigator to examine my car to try and see if it was an electrical fault

Feels like I'm getting somewhere but I'm not getting too excited tho lol .

Hi Roxy, very sorry to read of your loss, have been away all weekend so seeing this first thing this morning is quite a shock.

At least you are ok, cars can be replaced but will be very disapointing for you I am sure.

I hope you get sorted soon.

Thanks Martin I hope so too :)

Just maybe if your car is a diesel im guessing its got a dpf fitted. when regening the dpf the exhaust which exits at this corner will be hotter than normal as its trying to burn away the soot deposits. Just a thought.

My car is petrol otherwise that could well have been the problem :)

From what I can gather, most of these fires were started in the engine bay somewhere near the battery (possibly ignition coil block).

Yours is still a bit of a mystery though.

Good luck with your claim.

Digressing, is yours a 1.4 auto like mine Roxy ? It's not relevant just wondered what you thought of the auto box. (I previously had a hot magenta Mk 7 1.6 manual diesel).

Alan mine is a manual, I've never driven an auto but after reading lots of comments on here about people getting autos and preferring them to manual Im going to try auto this time :)

Sureley from looking at that picture your car is repairable??

Well that's what I thought but the inside of the car is water damaged from where the fireman flooded it

The boot door it scratched and twisted where they tried to force it open ( they did not suceed tho ) so then they smashed the boot window

They also smashed drivers window

The light casing has melted onto the metal the insulation from inside the wheel arch ( noise reducer or something) has melted on the wheel there is also plastic melted onto tire

That's the additional damage

I will have to wait to see if it is repairable or not

Don't expect neck-breaking acceleration from an auto but it is very smooth and quiet. It is much better than the Vauxhall auto I had awhile ago which was neck-breaking but through being so jerky ! Also it had a lot of hesitation pulling out at at roundabouts. It was most uncomfortable to drive which is why the Fiesta seems so smooth (Vauxhall said there wasn't a fault - it's meant to be like that Sir!). The Ford auto is absolutely great in traffic and multiple roundabout routes and hill starts are a doddle and very relaxing to drive. This is why I changed my hot magenta manual Fiesta for an auto having previously had several autos in succession. You do lose something on the mpg but from what I've read on here I'm not doing too bad at around 38mpg.

Sorry about the wandering off topic.

had a quick read through this for my own curiosity! don't know if you've gotten any further with it! Now i'm no mechanic or such but it really could have been caused by the fog light! although they are fused, as said they wont be individually fused. if a relay or something fails then it could still be passing voltage, and if there was a wire fault it could easily start a fire.

either way, never good to see something like this happen to someone! hope you get to the bottom of it and get sorted out!

I do a mix of dual carriage way and town driving and my manual average is 47 thats on a 1.4 Zetec Petrol, 38 sounds decent for an auto.

Also hope the op gets this resolved, and if it's faulty wiring please let us know...

My Fez is by far the best car I have ever owned, and quite fun for a 1.4, would hate to see it expire on a wiring issue!!

  • 1 month later...

Just thought I'd update this topic my fez has gone to heaven (along with my ncb) and has all been settled the cause of the fire by the insurance company and police and fire brigade they come to the decision that it was UNKOWN ???

Due to these events I Proberly never buy a ford again and I advise any body not to buy extended warranty as it stands for nothing 9 months down the line and unfortunately even the initial 3 years warranty you get with a new car doesn't even cover what you expect

A very sad ex-ford owner

I'm really sorry to hear you've not had a positive outcome with it all. It's sad that you have been put off with Ford now, but I'm sure these incidents are rare and hope that one day you would consider another :)

You mentioned that you have GAP insurance, does that mean you get the full price you paid for the car back rather than just what its worth now?

Not nice to know that Ford warranty isn't worth much.

My understanding is that it pays the difference between what you owe on finance and how much the insurance company will pay out.

the car originally cost me 10489 (cash price ) as i had it on finance and my insurance company gave me 8700 and gap paid the 1789 left the GAP between what its worth and cash price

im glad i got it or i would be paying thw 1789 for a car i didnt have :)

GAP insurance , is , if you paid 10,000 and are covered for 2 years , then if you write it off in the second year, insurance will probably pay 6500 to 7000 , Gap insurance pays the difference upto 10,000.

it is sad as ive had fords since i learnt to drive four years ago but the service i received from them was completely disgusting

originally i though it the old stereotype stupid young girl lets fob her off but they generally had no interest even tho the car was under manufactures warranty i even made my dad go in there but they were just as rude to him and as for phoning the complaints line and head office it was like talking to the wall the telephone operators are almost plant life lol

ive found a new car already i lovely Citroen ds3 test drove it on sunday lovely drive :)

Roxy , don't let the Fire put you off Ford , yes it sounds like the service department sux in your case , and i would never buy extended warranty either. But a fire can probably happen on any car , it's just yours is a very strange case.
