racingmars
Hi all, My 05 petrol 1.8lx mondeo has reported a fault with the EGR valve. At this stage it hasn't effected performance in any way. My local dealer charged me £36 to clear the code, and said it needed replacing at a cost of £215 less vat! Having done some basic google searches, lots of people on other cars seem to suggest that it can be cleaned with carb cleaner. Is this true? I am quite practical, so if there is a way to try and prolong the life of the valve at the cost of a sunday afternoons work, so carb cleaner and a new gasket, then I am up for it. Has anyone done this? is this ok to do? will the carb cleaner damage the sensor in the valve? any help/advice would be most welcome. thanks, rm p.s. almost forgot...is there a way to clear engine codes if it reappears without taking it to the garage? stef123
Can't speak for your engine or model but yes they can be easily cleaned with carb cleaner. This won't damage it and it's quite a simple procedure.
