Recently change front pads and pushed back piston, like i`ve always done on previous cars, rather than crack open the nipple, apparently this can damage some seal or other on the abs is this the case or is it the norm thing to do any advise would be appreciated for future reference thx .

steads is right, even garages dont bother clamping hoses and opening bleed screws - certainly none that i know

if you just open the resevoir you need to push the pistons back slowly and when you press the brake pedal to bring the pistons/pads back into place - make sure you only press it in small increments.

Seals are easy to flip but in the same breath, done slowly and controlled its easy to do without damage.

i agree with stef & steds..it could flip the seal but i havent yet met anybody thats been unlucky enough to have it happen .. myself i prefer to clamp and bleed..only because i just know that i will be the 1 out of the 1000 that flips a seal ..knowing my luck i'll probably be the 1 out of 1000 that snaps the nipple  if the seal did flip its more than likely because its worn and the pistons gone back unevenly..
