Marcr1
What does everyone think of this? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2199311/Millions-modified-classic-cars-banned-roads-meddling-European-Union-try-shake-MOT-rules.html?ito=feeds-newsxml It's pathetic in my opinion... Would also be impossible to enforce and cost the industry millions, garages & workshops would lose business and it's telling the public what they can and can't do. Ludicrous! But like I say I can't see it happening.
stef123
And this is all those silly over paid notices have to worry about...
DaveD
Can you honestly see the Greeks, Italians,Spanish, etc etc taking any notice of this? They dont even bother with seat belts or motorcycle helmets (although its the law). But I expect it will be heavily enforced in the good old UK though. But wait a minute the well off with their expensive classic Sunday cars will be heavily hit as most of the spares arnt available anymore they have to buy NON STANDARD parts. Last year on Crete we saw a wrecked car being used as every day transport, nobody took a blind bit of notice not even the cops!
Marcr1
It's crazy isn't it, America is the same. So long as there's 4 wheels and a steering wheel they don't care! Yet over here its a completely different story

Lenny
I read this thread. Less than 24 hours after I purchased a stainless piper duplex exhaust system. Suppose I could use it to replace the PVC spouting on the side of the house, such a shame as it would have sound somthing like this:
Stoney871
The Politicians will be buggered for armoured Limo's then and what about Ambulances, Police Cars, Taxis, Works/Delivery Vans, Disabled/Mobility Cars, Cash In Transit, Hearses etc, etc. All Modified. btmaldon
Its the Socialist way, to take control of every bit of ones life. Unfortunately they have so much power in Brussels, and thats why they want the EU to be one single entity, controlled by one government, with one currency and eventually one religion. Drives me nuts.;
Ray Robbins
Well.. On the plus side it would make my job a bit quicker, no people shouting at me when they mod their cars and don't tell us.

Stoney871
In that case a quick question. How long does it take on average to settle a claim.?
Ray Robbins
How long is a piece of string mate. All depends on the claim, the type of accident, WHO the third party insurer is, who YOUR insurer is, if there are witnesses, if there is injury, if there is a quantum dispute.... Standard hit in the rear, the people I work for vs a good insurer like Admiral, no write offs, garages being speedy, you're looking at 4-8 weeks before its closed behind the scenes. Thats with liability being accepted day one. If its in dispute and a really !Removed! insurer like RSA, you're in trouble. We've not actually paid an RSA claim in nearly a year now. Stoney871
Just checking as I have this case of a motorbike crashing into my car while parked. £1500 repair bill and I paid my excess to get my car back from the body shop. I spoke to my insurer this week and they haven't even started chasing the other company yet. Is there any way to speed them up in chasing settlement or do I have to sit and wait for the letter?
Mathrin
They can't recover the excess for you really, its down to a solicitor/ULR company to do. We can only recover the total loss value of the vehicle or the repair costs, unless ULR are going to issue court proceedings to get it back, in which case we take over so as not to prejudice our claim. I don't suppose you know who the other insurer are, do you? They should have sent off allegations day one! Who are your insurer? ( this is where I find out its us...) Stoney871
I'm CIS and he's Quodos through J&M.
Mathrin
Interesting... J&M are brokers for Taxi/Private hire? It was definitely a motorbike that hit your vehicle? Can't say I've ever heard of Quodos though... As far as Co-op go though, they are hit and miss. For instance they refuse to take any calls from an insurer before 2pm, making it relatively hard to get through to them to discuss a claim. They can also roll over on claims where they're not actually 100% liable. Tbh mate, I could tell you the one way to kick a claim into gear... thats threaten a complaint to the FOS if they can't give you a good reason as to why they've not sent an outlay/allegations yet. It costs an insurer £500 to be investigated by the FOS, even if we win.
Mathrin
Thinking about it, im slightly derailing this topic, should I make a "Ask someone in the insurance business anything" topic, do you think?
DaveD
I have used the FOS and it certainly makes things work a whole lot faster.
