Battery Light On

hi i have an c-max 04 and driving home the battery light came on. the abs stopped working and the power steering whent stiff and hard to turn.

Duff alternator or battery, though I'd be more inclined to alternator.

Most likely worn brushes, give the alternator a whack to re-seat the brushes until you can get it checked.

Over time the carbon brushes wear down and the springs cam on longer exert enough pressure to keep the brushes in constant contact.

The reason the steering got heavy is because the car was running on pure battery power and the battery just can't handle everything electrical on the car by itself.

have these cars got electric power steering? if so then the ecu will switch it off when the alternator is not able to charge or there is a fault.

if its a hydraulic pump driven by a belt you may well have lost the drive belt for power steering, alternator, a/c..
