New Econetic diesel fuel consumption... -.- 3.3l/100km combined.... Seriously, it would be more expensive to travel with a bicycle than with that car....

What I found quite interesting, is that the 1.6TDCI is more economical, more powerful and more eco-friendly (lower CO2), than the 1.5TDCI.

And more expensive I guess.

I think I will go for the ecoboost 125 PS version in a Titanium.

Which begs the question, is there any point in it? :P

Anybody notice the removal of the 1.6 petrol 120 bhp engine? It's been replaced with a powershift only option with 105 bhp. Looks like the new 1.0 eco boost engine (125 bhp) will replace the current 120bhp engine.

A zetec S with a 1 litre engine

Cost is the only thing I can think of, but I can't see a big enough saving to justify it.

I noticed that too. Kinda assumed anyone wanting a speedy 1.6 manual petrol will be steered towards the ST instead.

I've always been sceptical about the 1 litre engine, but people rave about it in the Focus. I bet it'll be better suited to the Fiesta and probably have a unique character to it ;)

True. Perhaps with the efficiency of the petrol Ecoboost engines, it was decided a smaller diesel wasn't viable. Is the 1.5TDCi a brand new engine or is it just a detuned 1.6? That might explain it?

More power and better economy, what's not to like?

Agreed - and zero road tax on a 125 PS engine! :-)

I'd worry about "guts" from a 1L engine. Say when you give it a hill or more people to carry.....

Bet it wont have better fuel ecomony when you drive it at speed ;) That turbo is gonna suck up the fuel under hard acceleration. Around town, im sure it wont be better.

VW have a very smart engine coming out next year in the Polo. It's a 1.4 turbo/supercharger with little road tax. 140bhp, and 0-60 in around 7.9 seconds. To me, that sounds more upto the job around town

I think the 1.0 ecoboost in the Fiesta will be the major seller , just like the Focus they are removing the 1.6 engine , it should be much better choice in the Fiesta.

I like the idea of the 1.0litre Zetec S! It should sound quite nice too :)

I do miss the n/a power delivery of the 1.6.... with no passengers on board .... not going up a hill.... above 3500rpm... but this should be less gutless for more of the time.

Going to miss those street pack alloys though! Even if the new 17" options are very nice

Despite its tiny capacity this will be a lot better low down and in gear than the 1.6 petrol. Becauses its blown it will have a higher torque figure than the 1.6 and peak torque will likely arrive from around1500 rpm (compared to the 4000 rpm of the engine it replaces) it will have to work less hard under load.

Comparing the Ford published engine specs we have the following:

Current 1.6 120

120 PS: Max Torque 152 NM : Max speed 120 MPH : 0-60 9.9 sec : 31-62 12.6 sec :

Economy MPG 36.2 / 62.8 / 48.7

Co2 132 = £120 Road tax PA

New 1.0 Ecoboost 125

125 PS : Max Torque 200 NM : Max speed 122 MPH : 0-60 9.4 sec : 31-62 12.2 sec :

Economy MPG 53.3 / 76.4 / 65.7

Co2 99 = Zero road tax PA

Looks faster, more efficient and cleaner to me in every category. I want one! :-)

I guess a 1L engine has a certain stigma attached to it for being monumentally underpowered, but like many things with evolving technology they can squeeze more out of less.

It would be good to know what the @ XXXX RPM figures are for those stats though.

1.6 VVTI 120

152 Nm at 4000-4500 rpm

Ecoboost 1.0 125

170 Nm from 1,300–4,500 rpm and 200 Nm (148 lb·ft) on overboost

You are right about the stigma.

Back in 1988/89 I had a brand new Escort RS Turbo that produced around 132 PS and max torque 180 Nm @ 2750 RPM - shows how things move on!

It's going to keep up with most cars on the road, and there's never been a Fiesta that's been bad to drive - they are always best in class. It is clearly better than the current 1.6 in terms of performance, you'll pay zero road tax and a tank of petrol will get you further! What's not to like about that? :P

I agree the concept of a 1.0 litre sounds awful and will have a stigma, but only Ford fanatics are going to know what engine is in it ;)
