central locking

Me and the Missus just noticed a strange thing with the car (2006 MK6 ) in that we unlocked the car and both got in , shut the doors (ignition off and keys in hand) and after a short period we heard the central locking activate and then around 30 secs later we heard it again and it kept on doing this , as if it was locking and unlocking itself, is this normal behaviour?

If you unlock your car but then don't put the keys in the ignition after about 30 seconds some models then lock themselves. Don't think it should keep going off though.

Try unlocking it then without opening and shutting any doors, see what happens...

Just been out to the car again and this time the problem didn't happen!! so don't know what was going on, what i did notice though was that the sound we heard earlier wasn't the actual central locking clunk as it were , but the same sound you get when double locking is activated which is a much softer sound if that makes sense!

Are you sure all doors were properly shut?

If any isn't shut tight the car thinks a door is open so wont lock - it will try to lock, then think a doors is open, then unlock, try to lock, then unlock etc etc.

Or at least thats what an Escort of ours used to do if one door was still open - it wouldn't shut up until you either tried to unlock car with key or shut door.

Could be an intermittant door sensor/switch.

Thanks for that mate, strangely enough, that's what we thinking earlier, 'did we have the door shut properly when we got in it' we thought we had but maybe not, as when I tried it earlier, I made doubly sure the door was shut and coincidently the problem didn't re-occur, so hopefully that was it, it was just a bit strange that the noise we heard was more like the double locking sound as opposed to the clunk of the central locking itself.
