Not as bad as what wrote off my old car! One ran in the back end of me sending texts at 40mph when I was sat at lights, the impact shunted my car into the junction, where I was then hit side on by someone also on the phone >.<

Quite right. Now, does anybody know where I can get a new shaver from? I dropped it in my cornflakes whilst driving to the station this morning.

Weel you shouldent have been doing that then - especially while rolling a !Removed! and writing a text, with a cup of tea in the other hand!

Unfortuately there are also numpties out there who dont need any distraction to drive like a muppet!!

Last week a Woman in a new shiny white BMW decided to run a red light in front of me on a roundabout, then turn right across me and the other traffic to head the wrong way round the roundabout...

Lots of beeping and shouting followed, but unfortunately she drove off rather rapidly before the "Words of Advice" could be given lol!!

She was lucky i didnt get her Index, as i would have submitted it as intel at least!!

Stoney, your probably a good one to ask, what would you do in that situation??

In my work car I'd go noisy, catch up with the miscreant and do them for reckless driving, contravention of a red light, failing to stop for a police officer, and anything else I could glean from PNC.

In my own car I'm sure my language would be legendary and much gesturing would ensue.

Her index would be noted if possible and her details passed on for a watch list.

hmmm yeah, i agree... A lot of friends asked why i didnt get out and stop her etc... give her telling off...

And i was like, Firstly, ive not been in long, secondly its a busy A1 junction roundabout, and thirdly, i have no paperwork with me lol

Gotta think of your own safety first!!

Signed but I think it the law should be changed to include eating, smoking, applying make-up while driving etc. Basically anything that could cause a similar distraction as using a mobile should all come under the one category. I know you can be done for driving without due care and attention for the other stuff but surely it would make it easier if it was all under the same legislation and it would make people more aware that eating behind the wheel etc could be classed as an offence

Due care is a general catch-all legislation which is applied at an officers discretion, i.e, If the Officer believes that something the driver was doing at the time of the traffic infringement/collision was a contributing factor.

Oh dear not to be a moaner but you are why the police get a bad name!

So if you are in a marked unit you pull them and give the necessary penalty. I agree that is exactly what they deserve for such behaviour. In your own car however by your own admission " my language would be legendary and much gesturing would ensue" Is that not road rage? tell me what are the guidelines when you are cut up or forced to take avoidance action whilst in control of a vehicle? I dont recal it saying anything about using "legendary language" or any kind of gesturing! What would you do if I started screaming and shouting and gesturing at you whilst you were driving your police car? And the using of mobile phones I agree it does distract you from driving and you shouldnt do it. But you compare this to being equivilant to driving whilst UNDER the drink drive limit which to the best of my knowledge is not actually an offence. So by your standards using the mobile phone whilst driving is the equivillant to not breaking the law.

Hey ho crack on rolling round your beat telling people to not do the things you obviously would never do.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

And that is all my posts are- My Opinion

Nothing I post here should be considered as official Police Policy unless I am replying directly to a question involving a serious law question.

All posts otherwise are my own views.

Ok, your opinion of course.

I was incorrect on my point concerning comparisons between drink driving and handheld phone users, thanks for the chance for me to correct my statement.

I am far from infallible, after all i'm only human just like you.

Various sites that make the point concerning hand held phones versus drink driving more accurately than me.

When in my own car, driving for social, domestic or commuting i am in the same position as all other regular motorists, iI do not have some hidden blue lights and in essence I am just an average Joe just like you.

I do have removable dash mounted white lights though, so as to allow me to smooth my passage through traffic if the need arises but purely to allow me to attend my place of work in order to reply to a urgent request for specialist dog responses.

I am solely liable for any Traffic offences I commit while doing so, I can't use the lights to push through red lights, contravene traffic regulations or pull over other vehicles, the lights are purely for use when officially authorised to do so.

What i do in my own car when frustrated by someone driving in a dangerous or careless way is probably no diffrerent from the behaviour of many other drivers.

If you re-read that post, you may detect that the quoted statement was made in a light hearted and purely conversational manner.

Hey ho crack on rolling round your beat telling people to not do the things you obviously would never do.

Do i detect a smidgen of sarcasm? Surely not ;)

Footnote-

Please do not target me for direct abuse, it is not appreciated, warranted or necessary.

Do you have a particular dislike of Police in general? If so may i humbly request that you do not tar us all with the same brush.

I come to this forum to give and receive advice, banter and good natured discussion, i would greatly appreciate the same considerations from others.

I do not direct any abuse to you what so ever my friend just annoys me when some police officers find certain behaviours acceptable when they are commiting them but unacceptable when they are being committed against them. which is how your post came accros I have a good friend who, before promotion, was a traffic cop in the met and he recieves the same opinions from me. I really am not having a personal go at you but sometimes the police in genral put the hat on and become quite two faced in their behaviour. I am by no means a saint and would never expect anyone to do something that I am not prepared to do myself. Practice what you preach is my message. In other words As a police officer would you shout and gesture at another road user that cut you up and not expect a complaint regading your unprofessional behaviour. I hope we can leave this here now and enjoy a mutual interest in Fords as what you generally write is very useful, helpful and informative and I enjoy your input. I am not a nasty person honest.

No problem at all, Remember i put my trousers on one leg at a time the same as everyone else.

We're all entitled to become frustrated, i just feel it's better to express the frustration rather than bottle it up and take it out on someone undeserving.

I don't drive round with my windows down flicking the V's at everyone, i just do the Italian style talking- plenty of waved hands and the occasional mouthed curse. (don't we all?)

No worries.

I hope you get sorted out in good time.

I'm sure the waiting around is a right aggravation.

Indeed, caught two already and I've only been on duty for just over an hour.

The weather here is crap, fog and rain, the exact conditions when you need to be paying full attention.

As long as all the t's and I's are dotted and crossed as appropriate and paperwork is correct you'll be fine.

If you think your first arrest is daunting wait until your first court appearance. :)
