Not declaring any modifications will result in your insurer not paying out in the event of an accident, as well as any penalty for driving without insurance. Also remember that, chances are, modifications will increase your premiums. I believe that mods that look better (for example alloys) will be cheaper to insure than performance (lowered alloys, exhast etc). Dont quote me on that bit, though! Adrian Flux and some other modified-specialist insurers may be able to give you a cheaper quote than most, however I found them to be ridiculously expensive. I don't want to seem like I'm against mods (quite the opposite, in fact!), just remember that you'll probably be driving for years - plenty of time in the future for mods. Minnis is right though its all very well doing cheap mods but youve got to think of your insurance aswell. The more mods u do the higher your premium and hes also right about aesthetic changes ( such as a body kit, tinted windows etc) being cheaper on your insurance premium than performance related mods ( like lowering springs, induction kit, exhaust etc.) how old are you if you dont mind me asking? Ive got a base model Fiesta LX 03 plate 1.3 petrol and so far ive tinted my back windows, fitted alloys, fitted a body kit/colour coded my wing mirrors and grill, fitted angel eye projector headlights, fitted facelift brakelights, changed my speedo faces/colour, ive painted my glovebox/center console/fascia under my steering wheel melina blue, fitted dmb badges, quad xenon effect LED sidelights/phillips xenon ultra blue bulbs, LED map/number plate lights, leather gear gaiter and changed the stereo/fitted a sub and I think thats all so far. Ive told my insurance about bodykit, tints, alloys and sub and that only added about £60 to my premium.
