Central Locking Issue

Hi guys,

I have just recently brought the better half a V 1999 focus LX 5 door, the past few days the central locking has been playing up. When you press the lock button on the fob it sounds like the car locks but instantly unlocks, it works when you use the key in the lock then all doors lock/unlock, not sure where to start as this is the first Ford we have had?

Hope you guys can help me on this.

Lee

Sounds like the door sensor in one of the front doors is broken and thinks the door is still open.

When you try and lock the car with the drivers door (or the front passenger door on the MK2/2.5) and its open, it does exactly that.

As above and sometimes water will get into the mechanism due to perished door sill rubbers.

there is a self test procedure to find out if it is the switches -

Just been and put my ear by every door and pressed the lock button, every door except the drivers door you could hear the motor trying to lock. Also you can unlock all doors except the drivers when you press the button.

No, you have two options... Only the drivers door unlocks on first press or all doors on first press. Option doesn't exist on all specs though.

Stoney: Is there a similar method on the MK2 facelift to test central locking?

I'll have a look in my Haynes when I get home in the morning.
