Fusion 2 53 Plate - Boot Lock Won't Work

Hi, wondering if someone can help. I bought my fusion for college back in August and have never managed to open or lock my boot door using the key. The button inside the car is completely temperamental too, so can be a struggle gaining access, espesh in the cold.

Does have any ideas for both?
