Hi Mondeo TXS

Just seen your list of previously owned car and loving them all.

I was a 205 1.9 GTI man back in the day when you were in the XR3i :)

2 years ago I manage to find and restore 205 1.9 GTI and loving it all over again.

Hard to believe the 1.0 fiesta thrashes the 1.9 pug !

The boost pressure builds as soon as you push the pedal to the floor so its hard to say at what speed the max 1.5 bar reads in at.

I will run it later today and have a look.

But is 1.5 bar about right for the 1.0 ecoboost as a max pressure?

Just read W.O.T = wide open throttle.

Ok I would say in at least of the 2 of the 3 occasions when the orange spanner appeared the W.O.T was used for less than 15 seconds.

I'm not sure about the correct normal boost pressure tbh - you need the facts from Fraud on that

Glad you like my previous cars - I wish I still had some of them, as they would be worth a fortune in good nick ! :)

My Bluefin remapped 125 Eco boost runs at 22.5 Psi which is 1.5 Bar give or take a small amount this is quite high on a standard engine.

I am going to play around with some of the after market inter coolers when funds allow as the standard Ford one just isn't up to cooling the extra airflow that these re maps produce.

Overboost is temporary & time limited / protected on all turbo cars, as excessive boost or overboost, which is your issue by the looks of it, WILL damage the engine - hence the time protection

Hi Eatonm112

Yes seen my turbo glowing bright orange in the dark quite a few times and think the map must be pushing the limits of the stock intercooler.

I wanted to improve the car without huge cost and potential warranty issues by using a Ford approved induction system and a bluefin which you can use to install and remove maps at your own convenience.

Just spoke to AMD tuning in Thurrock and they said normally Superchips are quite conservative with their remaps and tended to stick well within tolerances as they offer warranty on their remap.

AMD said that their map gains 40 bhp and 80Nm of torque!

These figures are well in excess of Superchips remap.

Just might need to only open the throttle to 90% until I hear back from SC's just to be on the safe side.

Hi Mondeo TXS

Some of the previous car you owned are indeed worth big money now.

I have been on the hunt for a good example of a Escort mark 3 1600i but they also have shot up in value and are just beyond my reach :(

Will have to continue to enjoy the nostalgic driving of my 205 GTI until the Fords come down a bit or the Pug gains in value to bridge the gap :)

I went for the S Chips as they have a good reputation for producing safe maps to me it sounds like there is some sort of issue with the map perhaps there has been a revision on your engine since that map was written anyway I am sure they will get back to you on Monday. I don't think your problem is caused by the after market air filter for what its worth just take it easy with your car until you hear back from S Chips.

Oh my turbo glows in the dark when I give it a hard time round the lanes too its nothing to worry about, It does remind me of my Renault 5 Turbo days though!

It could well be the lack of intercooling that's not helping, but a glowing turbo sounds very, very scary.

I seriously would not drive the car any distance at any kind of high engine speed until the issue is resolved

I have a Superchips remap on my diesel Mondeo TXS & had it on the Mondeo ST TDCi before that, & I trust Superchips implicitly, so I too would wait to hear what they have to say

Yes I will wait to hear back from SC's as their technical team are quite good but not in on a Saturday hence my call to AMD whom are also quite well respected in the remap industry (more known for VAG remaps though).

A glowing turbo is quite normal (I am pretty sure I had it glowing before the remap anyhow).

I will remove the map in the interim until I hear back from SC's just to be on the safe side.

Slow, dreary standard 140ps for me for a while :(

Thanks guys.

I will keep you posted on what SC's say as it may affect others on here as well at some point.

Thanks

Dave

  • 4 weeks later...

The Transit might have a better intake set up, better intercooler.

The Fiesta could be quite cramped considering its size, the transit could have better engine breathing to produce more torque low down, but with the same peak power. A map can then just extend that higher torque value towards the red line making a bigger difference in peak power.

I'm driving an Tourneo Connect 1.0 Ecoboost, different airbox an hose and also other intercooler.

Put an Mountune Focus RS air filter in it without any modifications and the induction hose from the Focus 1.0 Ecoboost.

Update on the Ford Fiesta 140 Black

Superchips provided me with a slightly less aggressive map and I have been running this for 2 weeks without any faults.

It does not feel that different from the 1st map in terms of performance, but it seems to be acting as it should.

The turbo still glows if you give it W.O.T for some time just before you end your journey.

I queried this with S/C's and they confirmed that it was fairly normal for the turbo's on these small engines to get hot (orange glow).

I now try to ensure the last 5 minutes of my journeys are mild to avoid the possible later turbo issues.

Fingers crossed no more fault codes or yellow dash spanner lights.

Sorry if you've mentioned this before, but how much did you get out of the Bluefin remap alone (HP and NM)?

Hi Dean

I have not rolling road tested the car but it is a significant improvement over the standard map.

I have also taken the car in to Fords with the map on and it has not been traced.

I have a device called an ELM327 which plugs directly into the car ODB port and records information.

Link to device:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WiFi-ELM327-Car-OBD2-OBDII-Diagnostic-Scanner-Tool-for-iPhone-iPad-iPod-Android-/271929122634?hash=item3f503d1f4a:g:7UwAAOSwHnFVpA5d

I then downloaded the Dash command app for my iPhone and then paid to have the Ford additional OBD information.

Link to dash command:-

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/dashcommand-obd-ii-gauge-dashboards/id321293183?mt=8

For approx £25 all up it is a nice bit of software for your car and you can get so much information from your cars ECU whilst driving.

The car with the SC map has managed a 0-60 run using the cars ECU and dash command to measure a time of 7.1 seconds.

So I have no reason to doubt superchips claim of 165bhp and 260nM of torque.

http://www.mybluefin.co.uk/curves/1lEcoBoost140PS.pdf

The other item I have on my car is the mountune forced induction kit that assists with the engines breathing.

Apart from an issue with a Turbo over boost error which I had with the first map, of which SC's quickly responded to and forwarded a less aggressive map it is by far the cheapest way to obtain more power for very little money.

And the other benefit is you can add or remove the map as you so desire.

Kind regards

David

Thanks a lot for that elaborate response, David! I really appreciate it. :)

Do you just have the remaps sent to you and install the software yourself or do you visit their garage?

Hi Dean

I actually bought a 2nd hand compatible Bluefin for £40 off eBay and then paid to have it cleared by SC's for £232.50 incl delivery.

So total cost was £262.50 for the Bluefin and map (bargain).

I am not that technically minded and I had no issues installing the remap software myself.

The biggest problem was that I use a macbook and the SC software only works with PC.

I had to use my sons clunky old laptop which took a bit of getting used to.

I downloaded the portal software on to the pc to enable a gateway to be opened with SC's.

Plug the BF into the cars ODB port (this in in the coin tray under the dash)

Upload original file on the bluefin by plugging it into the PC and using SC's gateway software

10 mins later they email you the remapped file, which you load on to the Bluefin.

Reinstall the bluefin into the ODB port and 4 mins later one re-mapped car !

Don't be alarmed when all lights on the dash flash and the car makes the same noise as when you leave the lights on once you remove the key from the ignition. From memory it also says the car needs a service. This all clears and stops once the process completes.

I understand it's to let you know that the bluefin is in the reading or loading phase.

The unit comes with full and clear instructions and also the LCD display on bluefin also tells you what to do next.

Instructions are available online on the SC's website.

I have since found this helpful write up on another forum.

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/tutorials/article/221-guide-to-installing-bluefin-onto-your-ecoboost-fiesta/

I hope this helps you make a decision Dean and good luck :)

  • 1 month later...

right somethings been bothering me for a while ...............

the 125ps and the 140ps .......
i was talking to a guy i know who is a ford technician, engineer

who kindly searched up everything between the cars things like gear ratios timings etc and only thing different was the head gasket was thicker and obv the map........

in that case could we get the head gasket from the 140ps put onto the 125ps version and have a higher remap put onto the 125ps?

The gear ratios are different to mate. That's why you pay tax on the 140 and none on the 125

"Tom Graham

No problem. Everything including the turbo is the same one the 100 125 and 140. But the 140 has a 9.9:1 compression ratio compared to 10:1

Definitely different head gasket unsure of the head but I think it's the same"

"
Tom Graham

Nope. Same gearbox as all the fiestas with the IB5 made after 2011"

"Tom Graham

Gears are the same. Same box"

Your right mate I just checked on ETIS

how do you check that out?

ps

Sooooooooooo if a person with a 125ps wanted higher maps could he add head gasket from 140ps to the 125ps and get remaps as high as the 140? thats my question? lol
