I was thinking on getting some 18 inch Focus ST wheels for my estate to modify it a little (no other reason) but I was wondering will it fit under the arch as I know it will fit on the hub as its the correct stud pattern. If it helps I am currently running on Zetec alloys fitted by a PO.

Yes they will fit no problem, you could even lower the car afterwards using ford approved 30mm lowering springs will bring the ride height around 15mm lower than it currently sits before fitting the 18's

However your acceleration on 18's will be slower due to the additional unsprung mass

I.e.

Bigger wheels on the hubs require more power to turn,

So your 0-60 will be slower

However handling, grip and stability are all vastly improved.

Perfect. Fantastic advice! I'll probally leave the springs standard but may lower it in the future ;). Yeah I knew about the slower acceleration but the handling has been slightly lacking so hopefully this should sort it. Top man!

A reasonable price for the conditon of the wheels? Seems a bit steep to me, though having never bought alloys bigger than 10 inch (for the Mini) I have no idea!

Rolling 18's your speedo will be spot on correct,

Rolling 16's your speedo is 5kmh under the readout speed,

Second hand st wheels can fetch as much as 600pounds,

They cost 270pounds per rim from ford excluding centre cap and tyre.

If you get the correct sized tyre then your speedo will remain accurate.

I.E. 16" alloy + 2" tyre sidewall = 18" overall, 17" alloy + 1" tyre sidewall = 18" overall. (not accurate sizes but you get my drift)

I've got 19's on mine and i have no rubbing issues - my wheels came off a Laguna with incorrect ET and its still fine!

I understand that but that'd be fine with the extra torque a diesel chucks out though, wouldn't it? I'm not an idiot but can often get unwanted wheelspin especially when it's wet so the larger wheels may help 

Get better tyres....

The larger wheels would definitely reduce the wheel spin if not when fitted then definitely after you've replaced a set of the 225/35/18 tyres

Ive had Genuine 18" ST alloys fitted on my remapped diesel with 300Nm Torque Torque and I've gone back to 16" due to the findings I've documented above aswell as having to change all four tyres every nine to eleven months at a cost of 105 pounds per corner and I standby the truth of experience, I think eibach lowered springs which were a ford option sitting on 17" alloys would be the best option for both style and performance.

actually its 5%! the tyre sidewall is measured by % of the width of the tyre....why do i know this? its cos I'm sad 😭....not realy, I work for a Govt dept who do work on tyres/cars
