greedy86 Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 Alright guys, So....i'm curious, not long had my zetec S tdci! I'm delighted with it, it's lovely! Frozen white - well looked after. I'm not overly impressed with the range from full to empty though. I'm getting a range of about 350 - 370 miles per tank - is this right? I drive sensibly - but still don't get that good a mileage!? I just sold an 03plt Clio 172 and i got 340miles per tank in that. it was £5 more expensive to fill up....but surely i should get more from the new car?? Any thoughts?! Couple of questions: What length and type of journeys are you doing? How long have you been doing the above journeys? Are you going by the trip meter or your own calculations? greedy86 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Share Posted April 16, 2013 I've had the car around a month now. My journey to work is around 10miles (15mins). Cruising the whole way pretty much. Also - regular 20mile journeys in the evening - every couple of nights or so. Going my the trip computer. There are 26k on the clock. Can this be right?! I've not got a heavy foot! By resetting the trip - do u mean holding it down until it goes " - - - - - " If so then yes! Everytime i've filled up. Or is there a different reset? If you stick your reg into Ford Etis (may need to register), it will tell you which one you have. alexp999 Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 Still drive at 60-70 mph, the aim is to keep the revs at 3000-3500rpm so the exhaust can get nice and hot. I'm not sure if there is anyway of knowing when it is finished. On my mums car you know when it is in need of a regen as the car keeps having its fan on, even with short journeys as the car keeps trying to overheat itself and burn off the DPF. alexp999 Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 If it has been a while since it had a regen it will. The problem is two-fold: The car keeps trying to initiate a regen, it does this by deliberately running a rich fuel mixture to try and increase the exhaust temperature. The DPF will be blocking the exhaust flow, causing the engine to work harder as some of its energy has to go into pushing the exhaust fumes out. My dad does about 12K a year and gets 60+ MPG and we worked out is more than beneficial for him. I do less than 5K, but have a diesel. I bought it because I like the way a diesel drives, even then I am getting over 40MPG on a 4 mile round trip and I push her some.
