Teh_singh
I currently drive a 1.4 TCDI 68bhp Ford fiesta style 2009. Looking at insurance for a 1.6 zetec s, it all seems good. The zetec s is around 95 bhp and was wondering whether it is worth the upgrade? Just looking to purchase any small 1.6 to last me through uni.. (Start in September) Budget is about 10k Any recommendations?
DanGersFord
You can get a decent zs for about that and theres alot more you can do to tweak them to give you extra bhp than what you're driving. You'll certainly notice the difference put it that way
Teh_singh
Only downside I can think of is the space in the back? Will it be a big difference compared to the 5 door and getting into the back. hmmmm
DanGersFord
Why not go for the focus ST? Lol they're 5 door haha
Teh_singh
Only 18 so insurance may be a pain :/
minnis
Why do you want to get rid of your zs? If I were you I'd save up and buy a focus st in a couple of years when your insurance is nicer.

I don't have a zs at the moment, I have a 1.4 Style plus haha
minnis
Oops, my mistake, the point still stands though. Why do you want to swap?
Teh_singh
Oops, my mistake, the point still stands though. Why do you want to swap? I need a new car before I start university and the main choices are the 1.6 golf or the 1.6 zetec s. Need something abit faster
b1g_dav3
Golf... Eww.
alexp999
I assume you mean Focus Zetec S, if comparing to a Golf? Why do you need to change though?
minnis
Agreed, why do you need to change? If you just want something faster, is there anything you can do to your car to make it faster? Even with insurance, it'll probably be cheaper in the long run than depreciation on a new car.
Philf1
My duaghter is at Sheffield Hallam and drives an old Punto. She really wants a Fiesta ST MK6.5 but realises that she just cant afford at them moment, she is having too much fun and spends lots of money, student loan+overdraft+bank of dad, so she is going to wait until she graduates, then hopefully as a teacher she will be able to afford whatever she wants. Unless your car is shot and a 2009 surely can't be I would keep it, faster just means more expense.
Teh_singh
Thanks for the advice guys! Decided to stick with the 1.4. There wasn't really a legit reason to change just because of engine size. But in 3 years after uni hopefully can get a nice 2.0l haha
FOCA
Thanks for the advice guys! Decided to stick with the 1.4. There wasn't really a legit reason to change just because of engine size. But in 3 years after uni hopefully can get a nice 2.0l haha Cars are poor investments - depreciation is massive in the 1st year/ 1st few years and insurance for a young driver is extortionate - better putting that 10k towards your student loans/ wait untill you build up your no claims (as others have suggested) the turbo diesel has some potential to make it a bit quicker without spending 10k Everybody likes new stuff, especially the "ultimate consumer product" (the car!) and at the end of the day just a way to get from a to b, - now where did i put that inlet manifold ive been polishing for the last 3 weeks?
