My First car was one I swore I would never get. an N reg (11 year old) Citroen AX, 4 forward gears, Reverse, and no mod cons at all! it was a wonderful car though, did me proud for about 20k miles, only had to replace the cat and that was it. Fuel use was horrendous outside of town but I loved that little car in the end!

1999 Fiat Punto, had power steering and electric windows which made it practically top of the range!

I look back on it now and realise what an awful car that was, but at the time I loved it because it was my very own little car.

It drank oil faster than you could pour it in, mainly due to a mammoth oil leak around the head gasket, and someone broke into it by puncturing the lock with a screwdriver. Had so many faults but it lasted me a good two years to build up my no claims.

Met its end in the crusher though after I cashed in on the scrappage scheme for a brand new 2009 fiesta... leaps and bounds over the punto!!

mine was a mk1 Astra SR that i got from a farm for £70! it had a bit of rust but had FSH but had not been used for years and I spotted it as i drove past and bought it there and then. I got insured for £350 which i thought was a bargain.

It had the GTE bodtkit and Recaros so was well chuffed with it.

post-28472-0-26639100-1370000745_thumb.j

sold it for £700 plus a vaux cavalier given for free which i gave to my dad to sell on (horrible chocolate brown coloured mk2 - i didnt want it so my dad did it up and sold it)

not bad at all!

Thats the thing about first cars... no matter how rubbish they actually are, they always seem to be the k9's kahoonas because its YOURS!!! it might suck and might be worse than bottom of the range but its still your pride and joy!

My first car was a 1969 2-door escort, ex-police panda, Painted as they all were back then in the horrid turquoise colour, it wasn't much to look at but could it shift, well up to around the 60MPH mark, then there was bu**er all after that.

It had quite a few mod cons for those days, an engine, the silly little 1100cc four cylinder unit in the front,

Brakes, well they did kind of work considering they were drums all round,

Four wheels, one at each corner,

Keep fit windows, you remember, those were the ones you had a little handle for on the door panel, that kept your arm muscles fit, but at least they went up and down.

A door lock, that hole in the handle that you put the thing called a key into to let you into the car, same for the ignition, though why it had one beggared belief as it didn't even have a factory steering lock and anyone and their grandmothers could hot wire it.

Front seat belts, which if used were an insult to the driver, (This was before the seatbelt laws).

And the most luxurious item was a radio cassette, which I fitted myself.

But after all that, I loved that little car, as it was my passport to freedom

Mk2 Punto ELX

Was a cracking little motor! Typical Italian...for all the noise and fuss...naff all in the way of results :-P

May not have been quick to drive, but it was easy and fun.

Wasn't too bad on fuel, until you hit 3500rpm when the fuel needle started moving quicker than the car!

Got rid of it when the signs of a third head gasket failure appeared. That and the gearbox whined, both front seats needed replacing/welding and a tyre that wouldn't hold it's pressure very well.

My best mate, the crazy git, had it off me for £100. He wanted to fix it up and flog it. He got as far as filling the coolant system before flogging it lol

Got the Focus exactly 6 days later. Then twatted a Micra almost 3 weeks later and got stuck with a brand new 208...horrible little thing (except it was good on fuel and had cruise control)

I had a 2001 Renault Clio Grande for my first car. Hated it at the time as it had no speedo and was constantly followed by the police for some reason haha. Glad to have my Fiesta now though! :)

Mine was a 1973 MK1 Escort, God I loved that car. Paid £300 for it, bright yellow, could open the doors and start it with my mates ford key, useful when you lock your keys inside. Drove it from Halifax to Hull every week and back never let me down once. Sold it for £700 and bought a V*****ll cavalier that was c**p and persuaded me to never own one from the dark side again.

I'll never forget my '69 MK1, it was so much fun with it being an ex-police car and painted that unique colour they had them back then, had many a fun time sneaking up behind speeding cars, and watching them panic when they looked in their rear view mirror.

I remember losing my keys one night and the only way to get home involved a couple of wires and me with my head under the dashboard, found them though a couple of nights later when I went back to the cadets, i'd dropped them in one of the rooms we used, since that day I've always carried a spare key with me, even to this day.

It did have it's down side, everywhere I went in it I got a pull from 'The plod', especially when we were 5 up in it, but was fun when we all got out of the car in full air cadet uniform, and me being a sergeant as well.

But the up side was I could park it anywhere and never got a ticket, (Though I wouldn't get away with that these days)

Blue 1982 Cortina.

Absolute bag of bolts with a busted drivers seat that had duct tape holding the padding on or else I'd end up horizontal every time I pulled away.

No front passenger seat and wipers that only worked when it wasn't raining.

It blew up one day heading home one friday night on weekend leave, I just took the radio out and left it where it expired.

Drove back on the sunday night in a £50 Capri with no brakes and one working headlight.

Happy days indeed.

Great thread, my first car was a 1996 Skoda Felicia (What is now known as the fabia) it is the first car made by skoda after the takeover of volkswagen. When i got the car, thought it was a ugly polo, no no! it was no polo! it was horrendous, if one wheel was parked on the pavement it was impossible to close any of the doors.

It leaked like a b!** with1 inch of water in the car at one point lol. the pedals had like 1 inch of space between them several time in mid traffic i would hit the gas and brake pedals at once, scary stuff!

The night i bought the car in birmingham (I live in london) i drove half way home before i worked out how to turn on the headlights lol the slightest of puddle water to touch the brakes and you had no brakes!

No power steering none the less... i drove the crap out of that thing! failed MOT on rusted engine mounts and worn tie rods, the cost of repair was more than the car so i parked it up for 6 months, DVLA took it away in the end i paid the DVLA £50 road TAX and never heard from it again! i was so happy it was gone lol i didn't feel bad because i even considered dumping it!

Looked exactly like this
