I think the Formula Fords are 200Hp but 1.6L

in the race serise they are 1.6 but in the video is the promo car ford did with the 1.0 3cyl engine and managed a little over 200bhp tho using the 1.6 turbocharger

:D now then.... Where can I get a 1.6 turbo charger... Maybe that'll be the Collins performance stage 3 lol!

Very impressive, not just because of the small capacity, but the small size (compactness) and weight of the unit

still not seen an st on the road yet but the orange does look nice, good choice. I cant quite justify the insurance for the st yet :( but a superechiped focus st with almost 300hp sounds exciting!

I emailed superchips the other day who are well respected and they said nothing is out yet for this engine so I would be wary of that offer and those claims.

Hi, which is weird as they do one for the 125ps engine fitted to the Mk3 Focus http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/10%20EcoBoost%20125PS.pdf I think taking the engine up to 200ps is fine for a race engine that will be stripped and rebuild after every race. But for a road car it would not be reliable..

Hi the superchips remap for the focus isn't a straight swap as the focus has a six speed transmission. I'd thing a 20-50bhp upgrade would be fairly reasonable and shouldn't start to stress the engine and other components too much.

the only concern i would have is keeping the engine cool pushing it much. for eco reasons and things the ecoboost does heat up really quickly which is the point as its more efficient but ramming more psi and fuel in there i think it would require quite a few supporting mods, maybe a nice shiny big intercooler, maybe even an external oil cooler also.

No I had a call today and there supplier hadn't delivered a part they required to make the jig so they said I could pick the car up today and pop back Monday to have it fitted.

Hi, I didn't say it was, however the map is there, thus the ability to make one for the fiesta should be feasible as the engine performance with the Focus in the same in stock map. Unless of course, like many remapping companies, they are waiting for a generic one to be released from someone else..

I agree, i think they all want to wait and see who comes out with something 1st but like you said it should be pretty easy just to modify it and get a fiesta in to test on for a day. sure there wont be much of a change as it is the same engine.

I'm currently looking at the zs but one thing I'm keen on is more power, 150/160 should do it, however lets hope mountune release something, they don't tend to have the highest figures but they do seem to be rapid :)

Mountune packs are usually a little slower than if you took it to somewhere specialising in performance parts, as Mountune have to work within what Ford will give them. They have the MR kits which aren't bad and void bits of the warranty though, and I'd imagine they would do a kit for you if you wanted more power, just it won't have the warranty backing.

I remember seeing the video of the mountune focus st with something like 250bhp beating a much higher powered focus st, sometimes big bhp isn't everything, although I completely understand what your saying.

Some of these dynos/ rolling roads are very "highly tuned", especially if you are getting work done/ remaps performance parts done at the same time/ from the same people

The shape and spread of the power/ torque curve is important, not just the peak Hp amount

the crank Hp is meaningless and often "guessed" or exaggerated -

i have a printout i got online of a "190Hp" st-tdci, the wheel Hp = 135Hp (whats going on there? ) -my crank Hp 160, wheel Hp 141

I would take it all with a very big pinch of salt

its all about torque and drive ability, u can have a 300hp fiesta but if its all the way at the red line you will never see it and if u cannot put the power down on the road then whats the point. simple steps are always the best, a better flowing exhaust and an ecu remap and i think this ecoboost engine will be all the car you need for a great daily driver plus will probably be the quickest thing u will get for around the pice of the standard car plus a 500-600 exhaust then a remap looking around 400 in general then i doubt no other car maker out there has an answer...

  • 2 weeks later...

The race between the cars is inconclusive and biased towards the people with the camera, the red ST pulls away from the mountune (camera car) one, untill the red one misses a gear, straight after that the video is finished (so you don't see what happens after that/ see if the red ST catches the mountune/ camera car up or overtakes it again)

Even in a straight line the driver skill comes into it, getting the revs spot on (not revving too high or too low), timing the changes perfectly (not too slowly, so time is wasted, and not trying to change too quickly, so you "miss" a gear )

So if you have a skilled driver in a 250Hp car and a novice or "less skilled" :) driver in a 300Hp car my money would be on the skilled driver /250Hp car

The point is - the video does not prove the Mountune tuned car is quicker

I have updated the OP. Found another company similar to race chips that do a chip for both engine versions. i have no other info but here is the link for you to check out.

http://www.tuningkit.com/chiptuning/ford/fiesta/index.php

Hi, I think they are best avoided because of this statement "Tuningkit works completely digitally with the most modern hardware and up-to-date software" Whatever that means it'll never be as good as remap. Plus they talk a load of tosh about reprograming a remap when it can simply be performed with a handheld device by any amateur...

Much of the speil is "dumbed down" (like most of these things are), and i think its translated from another language ((probably German) eg "tuningkit constantly polls the driving mode youn are in") Most remaps you do have to phisically take the car to the remapper, its just Bluefins or similar products that are user- loadable

In some ways a (top end) tuning box is better than a remap - ive used both, and know the advantages/ disadvantages of each, so i have very little bias (towards one or the other)

Generally, a tuning box produces more bottom end torque than a remap,

If you put your car in to be serviced, a tuning box can be easily removed, and on most cars, is untraceable, and cannot be deleted,

Tuning boxes hold their value/ can be resold - yes- a bluefin can also be removed for servicing etc, but, after a year, a bluefin is effectively assigned to the car it was on, and cannot be transferred (without paying a big fee) so if you sell the car, the bluefin stays on it, removed it is basically worthless, wheras a tuning box is still valuable/ holds its value, a regular remap, obviously stays with the car, so cannot be resold (is worth zero)

Ive read a lot of ant--tuning box propaganda on forums over the years, like -

"its just a resistor that fools the ECU" (thats just the cheapo ones, the top ones have microproccesors, multi channels, different programmable maps etc)

"Tuning boxes cankill your injectors" (i ran one jor years - turned right up for max power- i still have my original 11-year old injectors - in good condition )

mostly the critics are from those that have not used them, or base there opinions on cheapo eBay "resistors that fool the ECU" boxes

A lot of motorists have fitted tuning boxes - with good results
