Hi guys,

This morning my EML came on when i started the focus up. I have been away on holiday for 2 weeks and only drove to my girlfriends yesterday since i came back and it was fine then.

My mom and dad have used my car for short trips to work (Around the corner) and to the shop.

So anyway i plugged my laptop in and it read out (Cant remember the code now)

but something like Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A"

Ive cleared the fault code and it has not come back on after taking a blast on the motorway. I didnt think petrol cars had an EGR as this is more for diesels?

Also does that mean short trips should be avoided for my car also or whats the best advice for it?

Alec

Petrols do also have EGR these days, especially on the higher size engines as it aids in the combustion cycle. It could be that it got blocked temporarily, and you have dislodged and disintegrated whatever it was. One option is to take a gamble, buy a stainless steel EGR blanking plate (about a fiver) and if you have a good few hours sitting doing nothing, then follow Lenny's guide on the blanking of the EGR valve. Worst case scenario, you find you dont have one and its a red herring, all you wasted was a few hours and a fiver. Best case scenario, you blank the EGR and dont get the MIL back, you may see error codes come up that the sensor is out of range or similar, but that is expected when blanking.

Better case scenario, you do all this, fit the plate, the car runs fine and you get the pleasure of knowing you just saved yourself a weeks wage going to Ford's back pocket :D
