shaz4473 Posted January 29, 2008 Share Posted January 29, 2008 Hi, I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on a problem that has been occuring with my mums Ford Fiesta recently. She bought the car new in May 2007 and its only since the frosty nights/mornings have come that this problem has been present. The windscreen on the inside is soaking wet and using the front heated windscreen and the blowers is not enough to dry it and she is having to wipe the excess off with a cloth before the air helps to dry the screen. The problem has also been happening on the rear window although not as frequently but the strange thing is that the side windows are always clear. We have checked that the carpets are dry and also there has been no apparent problem up til now when it has been raining and it has only been on the cold days that this is happening at its worst. Could it be as simple as a seal or two not doing its job properly and the cold air getting into the car rather than actual water would be causing the problem? The car has been into Ford and they are at a loss as to what is causing the problem. So far they have changed the drivers door seal but then they admitted the problem was as bad as when we put the car in. At the moment we are waiting for an appointment at the bodyshop but have been told that they might not find anything and am really hoping that someone out there might be able to shed some light on what the problem might be so we are armed with information that might help in the problem being resolved. Unfortunately with my own experience in the last couple of years with Ford and a new car of my own i do not hold out much hope as after having old fords all my driving life the most stress and inconvenience i have experienced is since having my first new car(and my second as the first was returned and i was refunded in full!) Yesterday a frosty morning and part of the windscreen is frosted on the inside as well as the rest of it being soaking wet. Another morning when frosty the ignition was white and had a covering of frost on it as well as the frost on inside of windscreen. Hopefully giving as much info will help in any advice given. Steve Posted February 1, 2008 Share Posted February 1, 2008 hmm that sounds very cold where you are :) Do you keep air com off in the winter? Actually using the air con when the heater is on will keep the screen clear whilst driving. Might not help it when its dripping wet but it will keep it at bay whilst driving around. dreamer d Posted February 1, 2008 Share Posted February 1, 2008 iv got the same problem wiv my fiesta wen it comes to the condensation, the front windscreen is soaked after a cold day or night of not driving it. i have to keep a leather cloth in the car to wipe all the water off. the heaters take ages to do anything cos there is so much water on the screen. im baffed as to wot is causing it all and thort it was just me having the prob. iv no idea wot to do itha, so let me no if you !Removed! up wiv anything. thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

shaz4473 Posted February 2, 2008 Author Share Posted February 2, 2008 Really appreciate the input here as car is going in on Thursday and to be armed with as much information as possible. The car has been getting run with the air conditioning on through winter time just to keep the system running and to take any excess moisture out of the air - I must admit it was only after reading the manual that we started this as i was a bit ignorant and thought the air conditioning was only beneficial for summer time! Dreamer D - how old is your car? Interested to know if its a new car or maybe an older Ford. I had a 16 year old Escort Covertible and just before selling it was finding that in winter time i was getting frost on the inside of the windscreen which i thought was because the door seals were not doing their job properly anymore but the last thing my mum thought was she would be having the same on a brand new car when her 6 year old fiesta never had this problem! Steve - I must admit neither my mum or I tend to drive around with the heaters on full, only when in winter turned to max initially for heat to come through and then turned back around halfway - I don't like the car getting too stuffy! As to the location, Aberdeen Scotland but its really not that cold!! It just seems it when you get into a new car and the ignition is frosty!! I was driving the car and when car off smooth road surfaces i was getting rattley noises which i thought was something in the boot BUT on going into the boot to investigate i noticed a small white mark which has turned out to be musty and the felt underneath the boot carpet is soaking although at the moment the carpet is not obviously wet, it is coming up rather than the carpet downwards. At least i know now that there is dampness getting into the car - funny how the Ford garage investigated and could not figure it out at all!! shaz4473 Posted February 23, 2008 Author Share Posted February 23, 2008 It turns out that water was getting in at one of the rear light units - so far it seems to now be resolved but will check boot next time we have a lot of rain!
