Mr Bish
Hello all. New member to the club and I've come for a little advice and different people's opinions of the new face lifted Fiesta. I am looking at getting one in the near future and I just want to see what people think/recommend. I am a young driver (17, 18 at the end of September) and the insurance on my current MK4 Fiesta was rather expensive to say the least. Lot's of people I have spoken to have said that new cars have lower premiums because of having all the new safety features. Online comparison websites (and my current insurer) seem to agree with this. This really is the main reason at looking for a new car. But, seeing as I'll be paying for this out of my own money over the next 3 years, I'd like a car that is as enjoyable to drive then as it is now, along with decent resale values when I decide the time has come. I've been reading a lot of reviews about the Fiesta, and 90% of them are raving about the new 1.0 Ecoboost engine. I've test driven a 1.25 and thought it was a lovely car, but what I want to know is really how good is the Ecoboost compared to a 1.25? I'd have to do a little more looking into the insurance on the Ecoboost compared to the 1.25 but comparison websites (Go compare, and Compare the market) both say there is not much difference between the two. If it makes any difference I'd be looking at the zetec trim in a 5 door. Any opinions from members who have tried, or own Fiesta's with either of the engines will be greatly appreciated. wullie1515
The 1.0 ecoboost is a far superior engine compared too the 1.6 never mind the 1.25 lol! They are very good on fuel and have plenty of power if needed, depending on which engine you choose and what trim level, if your wanting a nice fiesta which is not basic but not equiped up too the max then the zetec would be a good choice with a 1.0 exoboost engine 100ps model or less :)
cuke
As above. The 1.0l ecoboost even in the 100ps form is extremely refined and rapid enough due to the torque output which starts at 1.5k rpm, lower than the 1.25 and it has more. It has the best handling of it's class and on a motorway the engine is only doing 2.5k rpm at 70mpg thus it is quiet...
Mr Bish
Okay thanks for that guys :) What have your experiences with the MPG been like? And am I right in saying the road tax is free?
E5GDM
There's a whole thread on mpg, but my ZS is averaging about 38mpg.....& Yes, 'road tax' is free.....
cuke
Yes it is free on ours too. Around town we get about 36-38mpg, however we just came back from a long run down from Suffolk and we averaged 55mpg at speeds up to 60-80mph. Pretty good I think for a brand new car that I am still becoming accustomed too.
Mr Bish
Oh that's not too bad, especially for such a new car. I wonder what figures we can expect after being worn in? Another quick question, does the Fiesta with the Ecoboost get the start stop? Or is that an optional extra?
E5GDM
Stop start is standard.
potter18
Had my fiesta for just over a month now ( 10l ecoboost zetec) and can honestly say its absolutely brilliantI still cant believe how smooth , refined and comfortable it is , I get about low 40s mpg. but had it up to 53mpg on a recent run, but its not fully run in yet .. only done 600ish miles so far . idont think. you will be. disapointed if you get one. by the way mines the 100ps engine
fordmad12
It's also got a nice sounding grunt!!
jimrex
As said, the 1.0 is a cracking little engine and very unique in it's characteristics - I tried it in a Focus so imagine it's even more suited to the lighter Fiesta! I used to have a 2009 Fiesta with the 1.25 engine and found it pretty nippy and well suited to the Fiesta. The only thing is, now that Ford have introduced the Ecoboost units, I really do question why they still offer the 1.25 (unless it's to keep the 1.0 sceptics happy?!) :P
