Hi Everyone,

This is the first time ive ever particiated in any kind of Forums however i really want to make my Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Auto 57 plate look as cool as possible without breaking the bank to do it.

i have been so inspired by some of the topics ive read and as a kid have asked for advise. So i ask for as many advise and information on turning a standard interior, looking classy.

So far i have managed to chnage the trims of the sterring wheel only because the standard silver was worn out and for £9.99 these are perfect.

and http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43815-show-us-your-aftermarketupgraded-headunits/ thanks Mike for the reply.

Now i want to change the following from the below standards (inspired by the above)

Hi again mate,,, you could have just carbon wrapped the steering wheel parts as I did, would have been cheaper too lol. The bit you are missing from the bottom of the console is commonly known as a 'garage door' and most cars don't come with them. It is a simple DIY install, but they can be expensive for what they are. And if you want to keep the use of your 12v socket, you would have to drill out the back of the part as the door comes with a back on it. I'll be listing mine on eBay soon as I'm changing my car this week so got a few parts that ain't going with the car. The Speakers,,,, if it was me, and the budget was tight I'd just try and get some from the scrap yard and leave it at that.

Vinyl wrapping isnt too hard on easy objects, cut the vinyl and apply it to the trim then heat it with a heatgun/hairdryer push out any bubbles, stretching the vinyl with the heat to get any creases out, remember you arnt going to see the back of the trim so just get the best finish for whats actually visible to the eye.Plenty of stuff on these forums and a little bit on youtube for vinyl wrapping too.

I happen to have a spare "garage door" with the lighter insert already fitted.

There are two types of part, one which is designed for the MK2 which is designed as an ashtray/storage with the ashtray pulled out and one for the facelift MK2 (MK2.5) which is just a storage tray due to different lighter socket placement.

The tray on the MK2 is easy to fit, the only faffy part is that the existing lighter socket is held in place with a black plastic ring that needs mangling a bit to allow the socket to pull out.

The wires unplug easily and have plenty of length to allow connecting to the new further forward position and the added bonus is there is a wire taped up to the loom to provide a live feed to an illuminated ring so you get a nice glow in the tray position too.

Have a look here for more info-

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/46168-removal-of-mk2-power-output-socket/?hl=lighter

The Garage door part routinely sells on eBay for £30 - £40, if you really want one I'll happily send you my spare one for £20 plus postage so say £25 all in.

It's complete with the ashtray insert and a power socket with the green illuminated ring in place, It's bare graphite grey colour (same as the standard dash trim colour) and is simple to wrap with whatever finish you choose.

Another thing you need to remove is the rubber cubbyhole liner which pulls out easily once you remove the gear surround trim, this unclips from the front using a wide blade screwdriver (it needs to be unclipped to allow the Garage Door to slot in).

Hi Stoney, you have been a true guide since I've joined. Most likely will get it off you if I can't find it any cheaper anywhere else plus gotta wait till end of month to get paid.

Btw any chance of picture and your trade mark installation guide? It will really help. What MK is my ford? I have a 57 plate ford focus 1.6 Auto 5dr hatchback.

Glad to help.

I'll try to knock up a guide for fitting the tray in the next few days.

Your car is a MK2.

Custom air nobs are amazingly easy to fit and make a massive difference to the car for very little money. (about £20 I think they were) look through the forum and there is a guide somewhere for how to replace them. Pick them up from eBay. The chinese company i bought them from also sent me a weird lump of tea :s

Also LED lights in the vanity lights make a nice difference.

What parts are you after and what final results are you looking to achieve.

If there's anything I can point you towards I'll help as much as possible.

Interior - Garage door. which is better- dvd system or the upgrade to the Sony stereo mp3? Speakers front and rear - need help on sizes and would I need to drill anything or straight into the original slot.

Will carbon wrap the facia and trims.

Exterior - side wings with indicators, will the wiring be hard on this? St y spoke alloys, can't decide if I should go for 17 or 18inch. And finally st kit.

Your advice is always appreciated.

I have a spare garage door (Mk2 version with ashtray insert and lighter socket) in the same grey as the standard console colour or there's an RS carbon one on eBay right now-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Focus-RS-Carbon-Ashtray-/321224685438?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4aca7bb77e

This seller comes up with RS carbon bits on a regular basis and is a good source-

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/theo-5085?_trksid=p2047675.l2559

I have carbon steering wheel trims that look pretty tidy-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-CARBON-FIBER-STEERING-WHEEL-TRIM-MK2-ST-RS-ZETEC-ST-3-TDCI-SPORT-225-/280949069192?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3AFocus&hash=item4169de9588

There's a very well priced Sony MP3 (Gen3) standard radio on eBay right now exactly the same spec as the one I fitted, well worth the money-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-Mondeo-ST-SONY-SINGLE-1-DISC-CD-STEREO-MP3-KUGA-FIESTA-ST-/331046218475?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d13e46aeb

My fitting guide lists everything you need for the fitting of a Gen3 radio to a MK2 Focus (fitting brackets and MK2.5 fascia are a must).

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/tutorials/article/56-guide-to-swapping-a-focus-mk2-radio-for-a-mk25-radio/

If you are looking at an aftermarket radio you need the relevant fitting kit (double or single din fascia, aerial adaptor, loom adaptor, steering controls interface, fascia spacers, shallow cage (the dash is sometimes too shallow for standard cages so getting one with an inverted V shaped rear or a cage about 10 - 20mm shallower than standard is a good idea).

This kind of kit (ensure the patch cable is correct for whichever radio you look for)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-Double-Din-Facia-Cage-Stalk-Adaptor-Panasonic-Car-Stereo-Fitting-Kit-/400583133266?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5d449d8852

The Speakers in a Focus are riveted into the door plates so will need drilling out, it's easy to rivet new Speakers or adaptor rings into the plates.

Speaker sizes are I believe 7" for front and rear doors, for aftermarket ones you'll need adaptor rings and a wire adaptor to change the standard plug connectors to bayonet fittings found on most aftermarket speakers-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-C-Max-Speaker-Adaptor-Plug-Leads-Cable-Connectors-Pair-PC2-815-/151114896326?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item232f2653c6

Good quality 3M di-noc carbon wrap with the fine channels on the rear to allow bubble free application is best.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-DI-NOC-Carbon-Fiber-BLACK-Bubble-Air-Free-Vinyl-Film-Wrap-Sheet-Sticker-/121122104187?pt=UK_Wallpaper&var=420145788137&hash=item1c3370a37b

As for the mirrors, you need the mirron caps designed for the indicator type mirrors and the lights themselves, the mirrors available with the indicators already fitted have a different plug on them so would be a pain to wire, Brigante http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/user/34566-brigante/ has fitted his own indicators so can advise you on wiring and fitting (IIRC he bought indicator mirrors and grafted parts to the original mirrors, (the standard mirrors have the space for the indicators to go into but no wiring to patch into).

With the wheels, I'd go for 17" which will mean the speedo settings will not need recalibrating, if you go for 18" they will fill the arches better but the speedo will read slightly lower than true speed and a rack limiter kit is needed on the front to avoid the wheels hitting the arches when the wheels are turned.

ST kit, front and rear bumpers are a straight fit as long as you accept that the rear will look a bit uneven unless you fit a double exhaust (whether functional or mock), the side skirts are the same as in a Zetec S kit, ensure you get the fitting kit with them, if you can't find the kit I can give you the parts numbers for that.

Spoiler is a straight swap but the wiring plugs are different for the brake light so a quick bit of cutting and splicing is requires, Brigante can advise on that again, just use my fitting guide for spoilers for the main job-

Hi Stoney, is it worth buying carbon facia for £60? And ashtray for £50? That's the reserve on both :-( How much will you be selling your ashtray for?

And again thank you so much for the above. Going through it one by one.

The carbon fascia is £280 and the carbon ashtray £110 from Ford so that is a very good price.

To fit that radio you definitely need the newer oval fascia and the mounting brackets as per my fitting guide (they take 5-7 days to come from Ford's central parts supply to your local dealers parts counter).

Don't forget the screws as I have shown.

That radio will fit right in and you have plenty of extras to play with, you get the GPS antenna and all wiring with it and will only need to connect the handbrake sensor for the DVD to play (unless you can find a patch to allow it to work on the move, [against the law though] )

For reference only-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DVD-Hand-Brake-detection-Bypass-Relay-Kit-/181220546441?pt=UK_Audio_TV_Electronics_In_Car_Entertainment_GPS_In_Car_Audio_Players_PP&hash=item2a31961789

I do not condone using a car mounted DVD player on the move, this item just saves having to fiddle around looking for the right wire in your car.

The Sony stereo, is it ipod compatible and does it need a wire connected from the back? Also the bluetooth works for phone and would I need external mic?

Many thanks in advance (again)

Stoney, where do I order the ford parts from for the stereo upgrade?

You'll need to get the adapter brackets from a Ford dealers parts desk.

I've never found them on eBay or suchlike.
