Essex200
Our 2004 KA passenger door lock is behaving odd. Using the drivers door I can lock and unlock both doors. If I turn the key on the passenger side it immediately re-locks. The same happens if it is unlocked. Turn the key in passenger side and it locks and immediately unlocks. When sat inside the car, as if trying to lock myself in, I can push the door handle on drivers side and both lock. If I push passenger side, it immediately unlocks again. Now the odd thing..... If I unplug the drivers side door loom (near the hinge) the passenger door lock behaves normal. I can use the key to lock and unlock. When sat inside the car I can push the passenger door handle to lock it and pull it to unlock. Any advice is very welcome please? Thank you Ian
hubby1959
There's nothing wrong with the passenger door, it's the drivers door that's causing it, the module in the drivers door will be sticking slightly, so when the passenger door tries to activate it via the electrics it doesn't like it, and causes the passenger door to bounce back to it's previous position. As temporary fix, remove the door panel, locate the locking module, soak in WD 40, and try working the lock from both the drivers side and the passenger side, once it works, (If at all), use machine oil, or a light grease on all the metal moving parts, (Not the electrics), and re-assemble. Eventually it will need replacing, but at least you'll have time to source one from a scrappy's
Essex200
Cheers Hubby1959. You're right on the first part it was in the drivers door causing this. In the locking motor assembly I found one of the diodes short circuit. Replaced both with 1N5401 diodes and now all sorted. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.
