smcqis
Hey this is my first post and i was thinking of buying a diesel model. Is there anything to be aware of as im coming from a 200bhp Astra Mk5 and it has caused nothing but problems for me. Now i want reliability with cheap running costs. Any advice or potential problems with these cars as in any regular or similar troubles. Advice on engine types would be helpful and what you recommend. i realise i will be cutting my bhp by 60% but that doesnt worry me. Not sure what mark it is but a pic is attached below to show an example of the type i will be looking at Thanks
Sara Fiesta
Hi, I have a 1.6 TDCI 90bhp and it's great does about 50+ mpg and goes really well loads of torque but not 50 mpg if you boot it!, I have driven the 1.4 TDCI and it’s not as punchy as the 1.6 but slightly better on mpg, as for problems mine a 07 and I’ve had it since before xmas and had no problems except for a few dashboard and parcel shelf rattles, all in all I’m pleased with it. Air Hostess
The picture you posted is a mk6 facelift (from 05 to mid 08 ) I have a 5 door 1.4i petrol ,I get around 46 mpg average no real probs except mine has powerfold mirrors and the passenger door mirror needed replacing because the motor wouldn't shut off (common fault so my dealer says and usually passenger side) apart from that great little car
StuartM
Hi, I bought my own 2008 1.4 TDCi fiesta back in Jan having had a company 05 focus 1.6 TDCi. Fiesta just as nippy and have got it up to 51.2mpg. Full tank does me about 500 miles. £35 road tax was the clincher for me! Only problem I've had was a sticky rear window de-mister button - fixed under warranty. Great wee car, I think it looks better than the latest Fiesta. scaryfruit
Hi,£35 road tax was the clincher for me! Stuart And with the new car tax reforms (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_172916) in 2010 the mk7 1.4 and 1.6 TDCi's will drop to just £20 per year. Mark M.K
im trying to work out which would be cheaper a petrol or diesel?i do about 15k miles a year, any advice? It depends on a number of things. For example: How long you will keep the car The price difference between petrol and diesel engines Different road tax price (if any)

Mark M.K
In the new Fiesta (current shape) heres an example: 1.4 Zetec petrol V 1.4 Zetec diesel : Petrol: List price £12,795 Fuel consumption 49 mpg Price per litre 95.2p Diesel: List price £13,395 Fuel consumption 67 mpg Price per litre 102.7p Results: Extra cost to buy £600 Saving per 1000 miles £18.64 Miles to break even 32,190 Time to break even at 12,000 miles per year 3 years This shows that you wont make any saving if you plan to sell the car within 3 years at average mileage. I don't know the cost difference between the MK6 fiesta, but i would say by going on the above results, you should go for diesel if you do your quoted mileage and keep it longer than 3 years

Also is the tax cheaper for the diesel than petrol car?
