Tail Gate

Hi

My 55 plate Focus Estate opens the tail gate on it's own, this happens about 50 seconds after locking it when parked, or closing it and driving away. Any ideas on this

cheers

John.

Have you tried using your spare key to make sure it's not the key giving off a false signal? If not my guess would be the locking mechanism/solenoid but that would only be a guess!

Hi James

Thanks for that, I haven't got a spare key ( keep meaning to get one ) this has been going on for a couple of days now, but since I put this post on it hasn't happened. Will see what happens ( watch this space :D)

cheers

John.

The boot switch is prone to corrosion or water ingress.

You may be on it there Stoney, where I live it rains a good 350 days a year, we did have some sun in 1987 :D. Thanks will get the panel off and have a look.

cheers

John.

If you remove the panel from the boot lid you should gain access to the trim with the switch and plate lights.

Unbolt the trim and you should be able to get to the switch better.

Take a look in the Ford Guides section of the site, then the CMAX section, there is an excellent pictorial review of fixing this, I have used it myself and resolved an issue with my boot switch using it!
