Decreasing Revs

I have a mk6.5 Fiesta, manual with a 1.6 duratec engine, and they are both crackers around the city

I travel quite a bit on the motorway though and find that the roar of 3000 revs can get a bit annoying on the long drives and was wondering if anyone knows of any mods to decrease the revs? A 6th gear would be fantastic, but we can only wish. I found when using higher quality petrol they decreased by 100, but I wouldn't say no to more decreases

Cheers

Different petrol won't decrease the number of revs.

If (for example) the wheel rotates at 800rpm at 70mph and the engine is revving at 3000rpm - reducing the revs at the engine will reduce the rpm at the wheel as it's all mechanically linked and unless you change the gearing there is no way to change this

Aha, I see - I guess it was all up in my head then

Cheers for the help :)

Would a mapping tweak be possible to achieve this?

Nope, the rpm at the wheels is relative to the engine rpm.

If you knew the gear ratios and things you could work it out if you wanted.

You could go for bigger wheels.. Here in Norway we are allowed to install bigger diametre wheels up to 5% from stock. That would decrease the rpm a bit at a given speed.
