Urgent Advice Needed. Possibly Been Scammed Re: Dpf Delete

Hi guys.

Need some urgent help!

I took my car to a remapper yesterday for DPF delete, EGR delete and remap.

He had the car from 10am to 8pm and rang me around midday saying the ecu was "protected" and he was struggling deleting the necessary coding.

Said he would have to remove the ecu and do it on his bench (whatever that means).

I now have the car back but my fuel light is permanently on, fuel guage reads zero and all MPG related dashboard readouts no longer work.

Also, when i turn the engine off i can distinctly hear the EGR valve opening and closing like it did before.

I feel no real difference in low end pull and still have turbo lag although tge turbo seems to boost for longer than it did before but other than that, I feel no difference in how the car drives.

The guy even began pushing his head back during the test drive as if to simulate increased boost!!!

Had my daughter with me so didnt want to begin a row with this guy in front of her but he was clearly trying to fake being forced into my passenger seat!

I am fuming that i have allowed this to happen but want to deal with him in a professional way before threatening any kind of action. I have an email invoice paid by credit card so there is a paper trail.

What should i do guys......

Mike.

Take it back and say what ever you did hasn't worked. Either sort it or I want a refund.

Im going to give the guy until the end of today to reply.

In the meantime, I will go to his unit after work to see if i can catch him there and demand a refund face to face.

I have also rang my credit card company but the transaction has already gone through.

Apparently I have to wait for him to claim it before they can take any action.

They assured me a refund is possible.

Maybe a voicemail threatening trading standards and a name and shame may give him a kick up the !Removed!?

The thing is steads, I thought I had done my research!

I trawled the various forums and found this guy through a number of audi, vw and bmw sites and they all raved about the guy.

Not a bad word said......custom remaps specialist apparently.

Just goes to show...

LMFAO

Sorry mate, but the guy doing that I mean come on! Lmao

Your dpf was or is ceramic,

There's no sensors from a ceramic dpf linked to the ecu,

I've had my dpf removed while I watched, and ecu remapped via the OBD port,

Mines a 2010 so one would expect it to be more difficult to program than a 2009,

And the fact the egr is still self testing proves its not deleted, when the ecu communicates with it,

Shocking news mate,

Id put his head flying back in the seat with me fist lol !Removed!

Check the welds on the dpf chamber or check for the existence of a dpf,

Perhaps pay an exhaust company to remove the dpf and check it with a scope camera for internals

Can you hear an increase in engine noise around the lower section of the centre console?

Does it drive like a petrol perticurally in 3rd and 4th with reserve power cruising in 5th ?

After leaving a few voicemails he has finally rang me.

I expressed my concerns to him and he eventually gave me home address.

I am going after work. He says it could be a bug in the software he has installed so will put the old software back in and see if it corrects the issue. If so then he will know its his software at fault.

Will just have to see now...

Hahaha.

He really did do that mate! I thought he just had a mild form of tourettes at first! LOL But it made me instantly not trust anything he said after that and with my little un there, I wasnt in a position to say anything to him.

It is/was a ceramic DPF (well its a Euro5 engine so CDPF).

I really wanted to be there for the whole thing but it was mine and missus day off and she wanted to go trafford centre....:(

I have looked at the DPF but because of the shield around it, I cant see anything at all just the sensors leading into it.

Im sure it is the EGR valve operating that I can hear? Its like a clicking sound that lasts for around 20 seconds or so and has always done that.

I have a mate who is going to check everything out for me at weekend.

There is definately a perfomance increase to be honest, not noticable in 1st or 2nd but 3rd pulls for a much longer period.

Will try 4th and 5th on the motorway after work...

Fords are different from audis etc - remappers that can electronically delete the EGR on other cars cannot do Euro4 Fords

If he does not sort it out you can get your money back via your credit card company

Hi guys.

Just an update.

I went to the remappers house after work and he was very appologetic and almost seemed embarrassed by the whole thing.

I must admit, I wasnt best pleased at the whole situation so I guess an angry looking skinhead walking towards you kinda makes you apologise a bit more! LOL

I went in there feeling like I had been duped but to be fair, he couldnt have been more helpful and did a thorough job of diagnosing the fault. One of his friends rang while I was there asking about my car and if he had found the fault so he bas abviously asked around about it.

He took the passenger side wheel off and the guard and removed the ecu.

He then took me inside and showed me how it all works. Quite an eye opener for me as it was like a workbench you would see at a computer repair shop.

He connected my ecu to a small electronic device via the pcb it's self and downloaded a different code.

Long story short, he did this a further 3 times until it worked.

I now have a working dashboard but the fuel guage still didnt work.

We went to a local BP and I filled it with some Ultimate but the automatic stop mechanism didn't work on the pump I was using so was a bit shocked when diesel came surging out of the opening!!

Anyway, the fuel dial now works but it is only showing an 80 mile range on the digital readout.

I think it needs to re-learn when it is full and empty.......

Car feels great to drive now. Pulls very nicely and with the DPF gone, I can hear and feel the difference.

Get a nice "whistle" now that I didnt get before.

I am happy overall but am unhappy about how he initially dealt with me as far as ignoring my calls but I think it is fixed now so I guess its all a learning experience.

Yeah, I agree with you there mate. Fords are new to him I think and he has kinda "muddled" his way through it.

total time from from dropping the car and it being complete: 13 hours. Hmmm

glad you got it sorted. I would genuinely feedback to the guy that he should consider how he handles things in future.

You were calm and collected, both by choice, but moreso likely by the presence of your little one. (Please dont think I am suggesting you are a nutter! :p) but seriously, would you have been as calm and collected if your little one was there?

I think he would probably do well to know that he needs to improve his customer service skills to ensure that next time, he doesnt come across an angry customer with a shorter fuse and massive muscles to compensate!
