Aftermarket Double Din Install

Featured Replies

Hi all

Firstly, I apologize if this has been asked before.....

I have bought a 2nd hand double din 7 inch media player. I tried to fit it but I couldn't get it to fit due to the wiring blocks (the original Ford connector & an adaptor to convert the Ford plug into an ISO). I have noticed that there is a kind of 'cage' that the original Ford unit fitted into. Do I need to remove this so my aftermarket unit will fit?

I haven't got any pictures as I put everything back in place then thought about posting on here!!..lol

Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi Mark

It has been mentioned before, but we are here to help.

You will most likely need the Double Din Fitting Kit for the focus, see below:

And depending on the make of the stereo, a manufacturer to ford ISO adapter. E.g if you had pioneer you would get this:

Hope the above helps.

Aftermarket radios require a loom adaptor specific to the make of unit.

Make sure you get one with a remote adaptor too so you can still use the steering column controls.

A DIN to ISO adaptor is essential and a shallower cage than standard is needed as the Fords dash is a bit bumpy at the back (a cage with a V shaped back is best to clear the struts at the back of the radio slot).

A kit like this will have everything you need including the fascia trim so the radio will sit tidily into the existing fascia.

The Ford radio is not a true double din shape but you can buy aftermarket fascias that are a true double din size so no trim is required but the choice is yours.

Thanks for the replies guys. Now I know what I need to do.

Thanks again

:)

Any problems just give us a shout.

BTW, before fitting the stalk interface make sure you connect the radio loom fully first as it can sometimes cause the interface to not function if you don't.

you will need an iso connector for aftermarket stereos also i had trouble getting mine into the gap it turns out in a focus they are not actually double din so you may have to get a new fascia off ebay.. hope this helps

Double dins are good if u want DVD/NAV head units. The real bugger is upgrading to 6x9 speakers
