Throttle Pedal Problems

Featured Replies

Have focus 1.6 titanium 2005 with throttle pedal fault - code p2135 has had 2 throttle pedals already and fault keeps coming back any ideas, does someone have part number for correct pedal as 1st one was scrapyard one and not sure if second one is correct as had no numbers to go by.

Numbers on current pedal are:- 4M51-9F836-BH PP-GF50 SPV008641-03

If the fault keeps coming back then it probably isn't the throttle pedal. What is the description of the fault code?

hi I have 3 code reader mine is a laser all say throttle pedal position sensor switch a/b voltage correlation code p2135

the most common problem found is the wiring connector at the throttle body on the engine. The wires break inside the connector so the wirig at both the pedal and throttle body will need checked

  1. Inspect all related throttle body terminals for a loose wiring
crimp. The loose crimp may be difficult to find, and the poor connection
will be between the terminal and the copper strands of the wire. Wiggle
test the individual throttle body circuits to see if the concern can be
    duplicated.
  2. Inspect the related circuits for broken wires
inside the insulation. The outer wire insulation may look fine, but the
internal copper strands may be partially broken. Breaks in the wires
usually occur within 1 to 4 inches of the throttle body connector.
Wiggle testing may also induce a trouble code to set.

hi will look at it and let you know

Another suspect may be the instrument cluster. The throttle pedal is connected directly to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster converts the resistence signal of the throttle pedal to a CANbus signal which is communicated with the PCM. Bad soldering connections of the instrument clusters circuit board is a known problem of the Focus MK2/MK2.5 instrument cluster. This can result in various problems including DTC codes which are related to the throttle pedal / TPS.

After I installed a MK2.5 instrument cluster in my car I had exactly the same problem. In my case the problem arised after changing the instrument cluster and was gone after changing back the Original instrument cluster. After I resoldered the circuit board connector of the instrument cluster the problem was gone.

  • 6 months later...

Hi,

I had a wonderful time on the motorway a couple of weeks ago when the car went into limited speed mode with the lcd display registering an engine system fault/failure (can't remember which). Was fine after pulling into the hard shoulder and restarting the car. Happened again, this time starting off in a car park the next day and again a week or so later. Seems to be every 120-200 miles. Took it to a garage, who said it was the throttle pedal (no charge for this btw!). Bought a new one from the dealer (£127!!) and swapped it over.

I have only had the car a few months (06 plate, just under 90k). The pedal I removed has a date stamp from July 2010, so looks like it has been replaced before. Going on a long trip next week so will update as to whether or not the issue is resolved.
